AROUND 1,300 officers were promoted on Friday during an exercise police commissioner Shanta Knowles said highlights the force’s commitment to recognising merit, professionalism and dedicated service across all ranks.
Commissioner Knowles said the cohort included 800 regular officers and 500 reserve officers. She could not say whether this was the largest.
The promotions ranged from corporal to chief superintendent for both regular and reserve officers.
In a message to the officers, Commissioner Knowles thanked them for their hard work, dedication and service.
“As you take on greater responsibility, continue to serve as upstanding officers committed to excellence, discipline and the highest standards of policing in service to the people of The Bahamas,” she said.
The latest exercise follows several senior police promotions in early 2025 after Commissioner Knowles assumed office, including seven officers who were elevated to senior assistant commissioner.
One of the more recent major mass promotion exercise was held in July 2023, when 721 officers were promoted. Of those, 105 moved from constable to corporal, 115 from corporal to sergeant, 251 from sergeant to inspector, 129 from inspector to assistant superintendent, 85 from assistant superintendent to superintendent and 36 from superintendent to chief superintendent.
More than 920 Royal Bahamas Police Force officers were promoted in 2021 in another major promotion exercise.
