A 20-year-old mother was accused of leaving her 10-month-old son outside his father’s New Providence home for hours last week, resulting in the infant being admitted to hospital.

The woman, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the child, pleaded not guilty to a charge of cruelty to children before Acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans.

Prosecutors allege the woman left the infant in a carrier on the porch of his father’s home on October 1, causing unnecessary injury to his health.

The child was reportedly not discovered until hours later and is now receiving care in hospital.

The accused was granted $3,000 bail with one or two sureties. She must sign in at the Elizabeth Estates Police Station every Monday and Thursday by 9pm.

Failure to comply with the conditions of her release could result in her bail being revoked.

She returns to court for trial on February 2, 2027.
