A MAN accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl at his Nassau Village home after meeting her on Facebook told police "it can't be" when confronted with the allegation, an officer testified yesterday.
Sergeant Eve Dalton gave evidence in the trial of Nathaniel Pedro Moss, 21, before Justice Jeannine Weech-Gomez. Moss is charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl on September 9, 2023.
Sgt Dalton, the investigating officer, said that on September 2, 2024 she received information about a sexual assault reported by the girl's aunt, and that she interviewed Moss at 4.34pm that day. He declined to have a lawyer present, she said.
During the interview, Moss denied the allegations and said he did not know the girl and that she did not know where he lived. Sgt Dalton said he also did not know the girl's aunt.
He told the officer that several women with the same name as the girl had sent him friend requests on Facebook, but that he had deleted Facebook and only messaged people on WhatsApp. He also told her he had two baby mothers.
Moss refused to sign the interview record, although Sgt Dalton said she signed it. A video of the interview, in which Moss is heard being cautioned, was played in court.
Sgt Dalton said Moss's house was photographed after the interview but no evidence was collected, as by the time of her investigation it was a cold case. Moss was then charged.
The officer said she received the file about a year after the incident, but that there had been an initial investigation before she became involved.
Sonia Timothy Knowles and Crystal Stuart represent Moss. Gary Rolle III and Davina Pinder are prosecuting.
