Four arrested in separate drug raids in New Providence

FOUR people were arrested and suspected hydroponic marijuana valued at $8,400 was seized during two separate police operations in New Providence on Wednesday.

Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit and Canine Support Services conducted the searches at residences off Faith Avenue and on Rupert Dean Lane.

In the first incident, shortly after 8am, officers executed a search warrant at a home on an unnamed road off Faith Avenue, where they encountered a 29-year-old Bahamian man.

During the search, a police dog alerted officers to a dryer in the kitchen, where they discovered a large clear plastic package containing suspected hydroponic marijuana. Officers also confiscated a small amount of mixed currency believed to be proceeds of crime.

The man was arrested in connection with the discovery.

Police said the suspected marijuana weighed approximately 1.2 pounds and had an estimated street value of $2,400. About two hours later, officers executed another search warrant at a residence on Rupert Dean Lane.

Police said the occupants refused to open the door despite officers announcing their presence, prompting officers to force their way inside. Two Jamaican men, aged 22 and 45, and a 25-year-old Bahamian woman were found inside.

A police dog alerted officers to a bedroom closet, where several colourful packages and clear plastic bags containing suspected marijuana were discovered.

Additional packages of suspected hydroponic marijuana were found inside the kitchen oven and in the front room.

Police seized 130 packages of suspected hydroponic marijuana weighing approximately three pounds, with an estimated street value of $6,000.

All three occupants were arrested in connection with the discovery.

Investigations into both incidents are continuing.
