A 36-YEAR-OLD man was shot dead off Carmichael Road on Saturday after an argument over a debt, police said.
A man who had been watching the confrontation walked up and opened fire, police said, after the victim allegedly pulled out a sharp object.
According to police, the victim was leaving Apostolic Way in a black Honda with another person shortly after 4pm when a man driving a white van pulled across his path and blocked him in. The two men then argued over an outstanding debt.
During the argument, the victim allegedly produced a sharp object. Another man, who had been watching, then came over, produced a firearm and shot him, police said. The gunman fled south along Apostolic Way in a grey vehicle.
Officers found the victim with gunshot wounds to the body. Paramedics confirmed he showed no signs of life.
Mobile Division officers later took the 27-year-old driver of the van into custody. Police said he is assisting with the investigation and that they are pursuing significant leads.
The victim was wearing a blue-and-white shirt and black jeans.
