A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with murdering a man who was shot dead near the entrance to Potter’s Cay Dock on October 13, and with attempting to kill two others.

Desmond Collie, of Blackfin Close, faced six charges in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday: murder, two counts of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and two firearm offences.

Prosecutors allege that Collie, acting with another person, intentionally and unlawfully caused the death of Aleix Joseph. He is also accused of attempting to murder Malique Saunders and Takwan Carroll on the same date, again while acting with another person. The conspiracy charge alleges that he and another person agreed to commit murder.

The firearm charges allege that he possessed a VR80 shotgun with intent to endanger the lives of Mr Saunders and Mr Carroll, who are also listed as witnesses in the case.

Collie was denied bail but told he could apply to the Supreme Court. His case will proceed by voluntary bill of indictment, which sends a matter directly to the Supreme Court without a preliminary inquiry. It was adjourned to February 4, 2027.

Police said the 25-year-old victim had been at a business establishment with friends when one of his friends got into an argument with another man. He later left with two male friends in a white Acura RDX, travelling east along Bay Street.

As the car approached the entrance to Potter’s Cay Dock shortly before 1.30am, police said, a blue vehicle pulled alongside it and a man fired a gun in the victim’s direction, fatally wounding him. The other two men in the car were not hurt.

The Acura veered onto the southern sidewalk, and the suspects fled east along East Bay Street in the blue vehicle, police said.

When officers arrived, they found the car with its driver’s door open and the victim lying beside it with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Emergency Medical Services personnel found no signs of life.

In December 2024, two men were shot dead near the exit road of Potter’s Cay Dock after a verbal altercation outside a nightclub on Okra Hill, off East Bay Street.
