A 31-YEAR-OLD man was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with raping a 19-year-old woman in New Providence earlier this month.
Tevin Fritz, of Joe Farrington Road, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans on one count of rape. Prosecutors allege he had sexual intercourse with the woman without her consent on October 7.
Fritz was not required to enter a plea, as his case will be sent directly to the Supreme Court by a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).
He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until January 21, 2027, when he is due to be served with the VBI.
Inspector Deon Barr prosecuted the case.
Fritz is also awaiting trial in the Supreme Court on a charge of armed robbery. He and armed accomplices are accused of robbing the Chances web shop at Baillou Hill and John Roads of $500 on February 24, 2024. Police said he was arrested later that day on Fleming Street in a grey Japanese vehicle matching the description of the getaway car.
Five days later, while being held for the robbery, Fritz escaped from the Southern Police Station shortly before 9pm on February 29, 2024, the night before he was due to be arraigned. He fled east along Quakoo Street and was recaptured on Celery Drive the following afternoon.
He pleaded guilty to escaping lawful custody when he was arraigned before Magistrate Kendra Kelly on March 4, 2024, and served eight months in prison for the escape. The armed robbery charge was sent to the Supreme Court by VBI.
In February this year, Justice Darron Ellis refused Fritz bail on the robbery charge. He found that Fritz posed a high risk of absconding given his escape, and that the Crown’s case against him was not weak. Fritz had also been denied bail in September 2025 by Justice Joyann Ferguson. At the time of the February ruling, his trial was set for May. It is unclear when Fritz was subsquently released from prison.
