A MAN in his mid-30s was shot dead on Lincoln Boulevard yesterday afternoon, bringing the country’s murder count to 65 for the year.
Chief Superintendent Leonard Ramsey, the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s newly appointed press liaison, said shortly after 3.30pm that police received a report of a shooting and responded to the scene, where they found the victim beside an apartment complex suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency Medical Services personnel were called and examined the man, but he showed no signs of life.
Mr Ramsey said preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was at the apartment complex when he was approached by two men who opened fire on him before fleeing in an unknown direction.
The victim, who is known to police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr Ramsey said the investigation remains in its early stages and appealed to residents of the community and the wider public to assist detectives with any information that could help identify those responsible.
He also condemned gun violence and urged anyone with information about illegal firearms or individuals in possession of them to contact police.
