AN 18-YEAR-OLD Bahamian man accused of breaking into a Carmichael Road jewellery store and stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of watches and jewellery was granted $15,000 bail yesterday and ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device.

Kendrick Strachan was charged with shopbreaking, damage, stealing and receiving in connection with an alleged break-in at Sierra Jewels between September 19 and 20.

He was accused of breaking into the business with intent to steal and of causing $962.50 worth of damage to two hurricane-impact windows and a hurricane-impact shutter.

The items allegedly stolen included Technomarine and Invicta watches, gold-plated chains, bracelets, rings and religious charms.

Strachan was separately charged with receiving several watches and pieces of jewellery belonging to Sierra Jewels, allegedly knowing they had been obtained through an offence.

Acting Assistant Chief Magistrate Shaka Serville granted him bail with one or two sureties across the matters and ordered him to sign in at the Carmichael Road Police Station every Wednesday and Sunday before 7pm.

Strachan was also placed under a daily curfew from 10pm to 6am, despite information that his job involved both day and night shifts.

Because prosecutors allege Strachan acted in concert with others, Magistrate Serville warned him that associating with other people wearing electronic monitoring devices would breach his bail conditions.

Inspector Cordero Farrington prosecuted the matter.

Strachan’s next court appearance is set for May 12, 2027.
