A MAN was accused yesterday of raping a 21-year-old woman to whom he gave a ride last week in New Providence.
Prosecutors allege Shawn Miller, 46, raped the woman on August 19.
Police said the woman reported that she asked Miller, whom she knew beforehand, to take her to a store to purchase items at around 4pm.
After making the purchases, the pair went to Miller’s residence, where he allegedly made sexual advances towards her.
The woman reportedly told him she was not interested, but police said Miller allegedly continued his advances and sexually assaulted her against her will.
Miller was not required to enter a plea to a charge of rape before Magistrate Abigail Farrington. He was informed that the matter would proceed to the Supreme Court through a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).
Miller was also informed of his right to apply for bail through the Supreme Court He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until service of his VBI on December 7.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Kendrick Bauld prosecuted the case.
