A MAN who ran from police in Andros was caught with a loaded .40 pistol in a pouch on his person before officers found marijuana inside his home, a court heard yesterday.
Clovis Clarke, 43, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of dangerous drugs. Officers reportedly went to Clarke’s residence on Queen’s Highway in Andros on August 27.
Clarke attempted to flee through the front door when he saw the officers but was caught a short time later.
Police found a silver-and-black Taurus PT 24/7 Pro .40 pistol with four rounds in a black pouch on Clarke.
A subsequent search of the residence uncovered 37 grams of marijuana in two separate packages, one in a bedroom and the other inside a cookie container.
Clarke pleaded guilty before Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr.
His co-accused, Latoya Holbert, 36, pleaded guilty only to possession of dangerous drugs.
After Clarke accepted sole responsibility for the firearm, the gun charges against Ms Holbert were withdrawn.
Clarke was sentenced to 30 months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
Ms Holbert was fined $1,000 for the drug offence or faces 60 days in Fox Hill prison if she fails to make the payment.
Inspector Timothy Bain prosecuted the case.
