A man in his early 40s was shot dead in Adelaide yesterday moments after leaving a primary school where he had been working as a landscaper.
Press Liaison Sheria King said Adelaide Primary School went into “emergency lockdown” with about five students and ten members of staff and administration still at the school at the time of the incident. She said that none were in danger.
Police received a call reporting the shooting on Richard Drive around 3.15pm.
The victim had reportedly just left the school when he was shot. Residents in the area reported hearing gunshots before finding him lying on the side of the road.
“I was advised from personnel from the school that the students at no time were in jeopardy or was in danger. The persons from the school also stated that they went into emergency lockdown,” CSP King said.
Relatives who gathered at the scene were overcome with emotion, with one girl screaming: “My daddy, my daddy.”
Police were unable to say whether the victim was known to them or what may have prompted the killing.
