TYESHA Tynes, one of the top Bahamian female collegiate golf players in the United States, continued to lead the way for the Hastings College Lady Broncos golf team.

The Lady Broncos competed at the Women's Siouxland Invite on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Ridge in Orange City, Iowa where they were seventh out of the 14 teams that attended the tournament. 

Tynes, who finished +10 over after the two rounds, setting a school record for 36 holes, led the Lady Broncos as she took an impressive fifth-place finish and her best round was the first where she shot four over par. Senior Lindsay Warsnak followed, finishing 26th at +20. 

"I feel really proud of how I performed in my last tournament. Breaking the 36-hole record and shooting my personal best over 36 holes was a great accomplishment for me," Tynes said.

"It feels good to know that I’m contributing to the team and helping us move forward."

Following close behind was senior Myranda Moreno, who finished the two rounds +24. Junior Makayla Miller finished +31 and rounding out the team was junior Katelyn Tacha, who shot +38. 

The Hastings Women's golf team, coached by Gabe Escalera, was coming off their fourth-place out of 13 teams at the Mount Marty Invite August 24-25 at the Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton, South Dakota.

Tynes, a 20-year-old art major, was also the Lady Broncos' leading performer with a sixth-place finish, shooting +16. Her best round was the first, when she shot a 78.  Warsnak again followed close behind with a combined score of +22 after the two days to place 13th. Her best round was also the first, when she shot an 82. 

"I think we have a lot of potential as a team. We’ve all been practicing, putting in extra work, and pushing each other, and I think we’re starting to see the results of that," Tynes said.

"We placed seventh as a team in our last tournament, and I think that gives us something to build on moving forward. My expectations for the season are to keep shooting low scores, place in more tournaments, and continue enjoying the game."

The Lady Broncos will head to Niobrara, Nebraska, to compete in the Mount Marty Invite September 21-22 at the Tatanka Golf Course in Nebraska. 

"I’d like to keep working on my consistency and the mental side of my game. I think being able to reset and move on to the next shot is something I can continue to improve," Tynes said. 

"Moving forward, I just want to take everything one day at a time and continue putting in the work. Most importantly, I want to finish strong both academically and athletically and leave knowing I gave my best in both areas."

Tynes is the daughter of Tyrone and Nathalee Tynes and the sister of Tynesha Tynes, a 25-year-old former golfer now working in maritime logistics.
