A 94-YEAR-OLD American woman died after an apparent drowning at Goodman’s Bay on Saturday evening, despite efforts by her daughter and others to pull her from the water and perform CPR.
Police said the woman had been taken to the beach by her daughter for a swim. After spending some time in the water, the daughter walked towards the area where they had left their belongings.
About five minutes later, she looked back and saw her mother being tossed about by the waves.
With help from people nearby, the daughter brought her mother out of the water and began CPR.
Police received reports shortly before 7pm of an unresponsive woman requiring medical attention.
When officers arrived on the eastern side of Goodman’s Bay, they saw a woman performing CPR on the 94-year-old.
Emergency Medical Services personnel later arrived, examined the woman and transported her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police have launched an investigation into the apparent drowning.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
