A FORMER independent political candidate was accused yesterday of soliciting sex from a 16-year-old girl in New Providence.
Prosecutors allege Daquan Swain, 31, procured sex from the teenager between June 23 and September 3.
Swain contested the West Grand Bahama and Bimini seat in the 2023 by-election.
He was not required to enter a plea to procuration before Magistrate Abigail Farrington.
Swain was informed that the matter would proceed to the Supreme Court through a voluntary bill of indictment.
He was granted $9,000 bail with one or two sureties. Under the terms of his bail, he must sign in at the Elizabeth Estates Police Station every Monday and Friday by 7pm.
Swain returns to court for service of the voluntary bill of indictment on December 4.
Reserve Inspector Deveaux prosecuted the case.
Bjorn Ferguson represented Swain.
