YOUNG Bahamians got a close-up look at careers in aviation on Saturday as Women in Aviation International’s Bahamas Chapter hosted Girls in Aviation Day, complete with speakers, exhibitions and flight simulator demonstrations.

The event, led by chapter president Monique Knowles, brought together local and international aviation professionals.

Inspector Kevin Deveaux of the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Real Time Crime Centre headed the force’s drone section, giving children a look at how unmanned aircraft support public safety.

Mr Gibson, CEO of Bahamas EVAC Services, also took part.

Visiting members of the US National Guard included Lt Col Alisa D’Agostino of the 1st Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment, and Shannon Coolidge, a loadmaster with the 143rd Airlift Wing of the Rhode Island Air National Guard.

The day mixed inspiration with hands-on learning, showing girls pathways into flying, emergency aviation, drones and related fields.
