COLINA Insurance Limited has renewed its support for the CIBC Walk for the Cure, signing on as a bronze sponsor for the annual cancer fundraising initiative as organisers prepare events across four islands next month.

The insurer, which has supported the initiative for the past decade, will also have staff members taking part in the walk/run.

Events are scheduled for New Providence on October 3, Grand Bahama on October 10, Abaco on October 17 and Eleuthera on October 31.

During a ceremony at Colina’s East Bay Street headquarters on September 18, CIBC Caribbean head of country Terrance Gibson thanked the company for its longstanding support.

“It is key that sponsors like Colina continue to contribute towards the Walk for the Cure,” Mr Gibson said. “This is for a very worthy cause. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer.”

He said the initiative is a “labour of love” for CIBC across the Caribbean and thanked Colina for remaining involved.

Antionette Fox, business analyst in the CIBC FirstCaribbean managing director’s office, said this year’s programme would allow wider participation throughout The Bahamas.

“Every island gets its own event, so this year there is a broader level of participation throughout The Bahamas,” Ms Fox said.

She said Colina has consistently sponsored and participated in the initiative over the years.

Funds raised through the CIBC Walk for the Cure support cancer screening and diagnosis, treatment equipment, medical examinations and scans, patient and family assistance, counselling and cancer education and awareness programmes.

Maxine V Seymour, Colina’s director of corporate communications, said the company remained committed to supporting efforts aimed at helping cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.

“Cancer touches virtually every community in The Bahamas,” Ms Seymour said. “Colina is committed to the health and well-being of Bahamian families, and CIBC’s Walk for the Cure continues to play an integral role in providing much-needed financial support in the cancer fight.”

She said Colina would continue supporting initiatives assisting “the patients, the survivors and the caregivers”.
