A MAN in his early 30s was shot dead after answering a knock at the door of his Cowpen Road residence on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police press liaison Chief Superintendent Sheria King said officers were alerted to the shooting on Cowpen Road West at about 1.30pm.

Responding officers found the man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his upper body.

“Information is limited at this time in this matter,” Chief Supt King said, “but what we do know preliminarily is that the male was home in his residence when there was a knock at the door. He answered that knock, and the individuals that was on the other side of the door opened fire on him and fatally shot him.”

The killing follows another fatal shooting earlier this month, when a man in his early 40s was shot and killed on Richard Drive in Adelaide moments after leaving Adelaide Primary School, where he had been working as a landscaper.

That shooting prompted school officials to place the campus under emergency lockdown. Police said the five students and ten staff members who remained at the school were not in danger.
