A 45-YEAR-OLD man who blamed a drug habit after unlawfully entering a Flax Terrace home at night while carrying a pocket knife was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Friday.
Nadio Hanna admitted entering Fernand Lucien’s Malcolm Road area residence while carrying a black pocket knife on the night of September 21.
He was also accused of assaulting Lucien with the knife.
Hanna pleaded guilty to unlawful entry by night and unlawfully carrying arms before Senior Magistrate Kendra Kelly Burrows, but pleaded not guilty to assault with a dangerous instrument. The assault charge was later withdrawn.
Hanna expressed remorse and attributed his actions to his drug habit, asking the court for help with his addiction.
He was sentenced to 18 months for unlawful entry and one month for unlawfully carrying arms, with the sentences to run concurrently.
Hanna is to receive drug counselling and a psychological evaluation while in custody.
Corporal Moultrie prosecuted the case.
