Union blasts plan to hire 300 Ghanaian teachers
GHANA’S foreign affairs minister has announced that The Bahamas is ready to receive 300 Ghanaian teachers this year, prompting Bahamas Union of Teachers president Belinda Wilson to question how the government could negotiate their recruitment “in minutes” while failing after ten months of talks to secure salary increases for more than 2,000 Bahamian teachers.
BUT rejects second pay offer; gives Govt three days to respond
THE Bahamas Union of Teachers has given the government until tomorrow (Wednesday) to submit a revised counter-proposal on salary increases and other benefits for educators after rejecting its second offer.
Teachers vote for industrial action
TEACHERS have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action, a show of unrest a few days after Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis expressed disappointment with unions’ fierce reaction to the government’s latest salary increases.
