When we are not safe in our own homes is when I challenge anyone to tell me The Bahamas is NOT a FAILED NATION! This man was at home and he was KILLED, WTF people, when will enough be enough? One other thing, what in the hell do these criminals think people have in their homes? Who carry's ANY amount of money home? One thing for sure, the privy council can go to hell, it is time to HANG these murderous misfits!

In walking in Aly's shoes I cannot understand his comment. HE was commenting on illegal houses that were built that were being torn down. The law of the land is that if you wish to build you get a building permit and then you can build. You don't squat, breaking the law, and then expect someone to walk in your shoes. . Our Challenge is that we have allowed people to break laws in this country for so long that we seek to make excuses when people cry that they are being taken advantage of. . I concur with the editor that we need to fix the issue of relations in the Bahamas. However, if i immigrate to another country, I cannot dictate, not should I expect that country to change its laws and way of life for me. I decided to migrate so therefore I must accept the country I go to. The challenge with fixing the Bahamian Haitian issue is that too many people expect that Bahamians must adjust their ways to accept the way of Haitians. That is ludicrous. If you are in the Bahamas of any foreign decent, then one needs to acculturate themselves to the way of the Bahamas.

What y'all fail to realize is this guy is only 18! FIVE years ago he was thirteen years old and the crime rate (murders included) was about the same. TEN years ago when he was 8 years old we were facing the same crime problem. The main difference is criminals are becoming more violent and more daring in their activities The point is that we know the people killed 5 yars ago are still dead and so are those who were murdered ten years ago. But the murderers today are a different set of 18, 19, 20 ,21 year olds. The point is they are a product of a society that continues to create them. And as long as things remain the same in 5 years there will be another set of 18, 19 , 20 and 21 year olds committing crime and murder and ten years after that yet still a different group. The point is the system is broken and until it is fixed the problem will remain the same.

Is there anyone who can save us from this incompetent moron? Mr. miller your excuse sounds like a little child telling their teacher that the dog ate their homework. Please grow up there are 5000 homes in this country without electricity because it costs too much. We are tired of excuses, my bill is sky high yet oil has fallen 25% in the last 4 months. So this fuel charge really is a sham, my surcharge has been increasing not decreasing! Get someone to run the company who can stand up for us, demand accurate fuel bills from shell or go to another supplier. We are tired of your pathetic excuses. Give us accurate lower bills or resign.

It really defies logic that as recently as last year, Christie as PM and Minister of Finance and Shane Gibson as Minister with responsibility for NIB, decided to increase NIB's shareholding in BOB by injecting $32 million of capital funds notwithstanding the known but unbooked mega millions of loan losses within BOB's loan portfolio. THIS WAS A ROYAL BREACH OF TRUST PERPETRATED ON THE INTENDED AND RIGHTFUL BENEFICIARIES OF NIB's TRUST FUNDS BY PERRY "VOMIT" CHRISTIE, "SHAMELESS" SHANE GIBSON, "DUFUS" PAUL McWEENEY AND "SPINELESS" WENDY CRAIGG. Every week we learn of another grand scewup by these idiots. The level of corruption and its acceptance by the Bahamian public is truly sickening. Truly sad. Right in front of our own eyes, they are sucking this Bahamaland dry. It hurts to see it happening and know that no one will do anything about it. BEC disgrace,Wells LOI issue, Customs corruption, PMH dysfunction, No FOI, Missing $$ at every turn, Crime is out of control and so many other issues too numerous to count.
No one will be held accountable for this BOB mess or anything else, as history has shown us. We need to see people be held accountable for their wrongdoings, be they PLP or FNM, family or not. To get this country on track, we need to start with getting our morals and values right. If we the citizens do not demand better of our politicians, they will continue to suck us dry - greedy VAMPIRES! Everything in the hands of our government is a FAILURE! Now they are threatening us that we MUST pay VAT! We know FULL WELL what will happen with those funds. We don't TRUST our government(s)! While we count our coins to live day to day, hoping for a better life one day, politicians bank accounts will continue to grow with our money. No wonder they always smilin!

What nonsense!!! Self-appointed intellectuals playing the “sympathy” card, most certainly have contributed to this hellish problem. Understand . . . . An individual (for example) born to Haitian parents anywhere on earth, is legally a Citizen of Haiti. As such, consideration, compassion and empathy for societal integration should be shown such individuals BY the country of his/her CITIZENSHIP. Notwithstanding current law, the Bahamas has no other obligation to citizens of ANOTHER country.

Tired of hearing about the 'poor Haitians' and the miserable situation in Haiti. "Tings tuff" in the Bahamas for Bahamians too. Where are the preachers talking about that? Just because the situation in Haiti is terrible doesn't mean they have the right to just sneak into the Bahamas and set up house-- and have the nerve to complain when government ministries finally begin to the do their job! They don't even see what they are doing is wrong.

We need acknowledge our own poverty. I confess i am not familiar with Comrade Preacherman's Wood's or his church's local outreach ministry. But there is a growing tendency to think about poverty, suffering, and pain as realities that only happen people primarily living in Haiti and other economically depressed countries. That it is not happening in Bahamaland?. We seldom think of our own people as being poor. Still, there is poverty, loneliness, painful hurting, deep depression, and hungry just around corners of our own local churches? Comrades let all of us also not forget our obligations in Christ, towards our own people's. They say Bahamaland is the most well-off of all countries within our region. Then why do we have poverty? Why do we see an increase in 'adults' begging? Are not the poor the true Saint's?

The Haitians, in particular, having been feeding themselves a lie that they are Bahamians "at birth" This is so twisted. I don't know how "right to apply for citizenship" is interpreted as "automatic citizenship at birth" but whatever the interpretation they have been using it to "rape" our country for years by saturating our hospitals with their newborns. I just wish the Government would take this to the next level and amend the Constitution. Trust me. If they fix this, they would not need a bus or plane to get the illegals out.

I am constantly amazed at how people continue to post these kinds of comments.

Please forgive my ignorance and explain how someone can enter a country illegally and produce children and then expect not to be deported (with those children) if they are caught.. How do you equate wanting a better life with breaking a country's laws to do so? What am I missing here?

Why do people always try to justify wrong because in their minds their greater need to survive somehow makes that wrong action right?

So the fact that you were in a country illegally 'for years' and you have become accustomed to this new life now makes it "unchristian" for the country to deport you because you have children who do not know the country you left - albeit you entered the country you currently reside in illegally without knowing that country, its culture or its people? You did know, however, that you were breaking the law and that you risked deportation if caught.

Boy I've got to read my Bible again.

I agree with you but what gets me is the bleeding hearts who visit these blogs to attempt to make us feel bad for enforcing our laws. They make this worse by sympathizing and aiding and abetting the behavior of illegals. I'm sorry but my loyalty to my country and protecting its borders far surpasses any compassion I have for illegals. In my opinion there are just too many of them.

There is petition that is being circulated online at change.org to have our Constitution amended to put a stop to the children of illegals who continue to assert a right to citizenship because they were born here. I strongly suggest all right-thinking Bahamians sign it.

Miami-Dade has lots of immigrants who get ripped off. Campbell’s legislative office is in Miami-Dade. Turns out, her top aide Janice Shackelford was arrested for grand theft last fall for allegedly charging constituents, mostly Haitian immigrants, phony fees for help that never materialized. Before Campbell hired her, Shackelford had pleaded guilty to a 2006 grand theft charge in Miami-Dade; a swindling charge was dropped.

North Miami has been plagued with “unscrupulous” absentee ballot irregularities at assisted living facilities, a county ethics group reported in 2008. Campbell campaigned in a North Miami ALF. And that very ALF was highlighted in the ethics group report that pointedly mentioned the Democrat by name.

Some group home residents have died or been raped in Miami-Dade. Campbell and her son ran Professional Group Home, based in Miami-Dade. And two developmentally disabled Miami-Dade residents died in its care in 2006, one after she was raped by a dangerous resident. The rapist wasn’t supervised closely despite Daphne Campbell’s assurance to a judge that he would get “’one-on-one” monitoring from staffers who will “’be with him everywhere he goes.”

Beyond Miami-Dade, in Lee County, two other disabled people died in Professional Group Home’s care in 2006. One disabled man, who had profound trouble eating, was allowed to have a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich that choked him to death.

The four deaths — plus inspections that found everything from rodent feces, cockroaches and squalor at the Campbell’s facilities — led the state to try to terminate their contract for about 10 group homes. The Campbells fought the state to keep their license so they could continue to work in the healthcare field and bill Medicaid.

In 2011, The Herald began an award-winning investigation into ALFs and found tales of horror and mistreatment at some facilities throughout the state.

Facing reforms, the ALF industry fought back with the help of Rep. Campbell. She co-sponsored legislation to deny public access to the state-kept list of troubled ALFs. Without access to the information, The Herald would not have been able to document the abuse of the elderly in state care.

Republican Gov. Rick Scott vetoed the bill.

Campbell was also ribbed on the House floor in 2011 when she spoke in favor of a bill limiting lawsuits. Rep. Scott Randolph, D-Orlando, brought up the horrific group-home deaths that happened under Campbell’s watch.

Campbell said Randolph was persecuting her because she’s anti-abortion and he’s for abortion rights.

That’s one of the stock responses from the Campbells in all of the above controversies: They’re being persecuted for doing the right thing, the court evidence is wrong, or there’s more information that hasn’t gotten out.
