Problems facing Harbour Island
I spent the past weekend in beautiful Harbour Island. The ride from Nassau to Harbour Island and back is a beautiful experience, especially if the boat is not too “jammed up”.
WHISTLE WHILE YOU FLY A KITE
There is in this country a long-standing tradition of eloquent men who choose to share their opinions with the wider world behind a veil of anonymity. That is their choice and I do not harbour strong feelings one way or the other.
Threats to Minnis
Bahamians remember that in June PLP Chairman emeritus Errington “Minky” Isaacs threatened to strike PM Dr Hubert Minnis in the mouth after the PM had revealed in the House that Isaacs had received a very lucrative BPL contract under the Christie administration. The threat made national headlines.
Legalise marijuana
I write in reference to a letter advocating for the legalisation of marijuana which was published in your daily on 20/7/17.
Apologies for the corruption
Two PLP apologists have come to the rescue of their scandal-ridden party: Rodney Moncur and one Andrew Allen. Moncur is nursing a grudge against the FNM after it decided not to give him a nomination before the election. The former Workers Party leader, DNA candidate and Loretta Butler-Turner Senate appointee appears to be suffering from political schizophrenia. He is a political opportunist and, in my opinion an impostor who will probably be begging the PLP for a nomination in 2022, life last.
PLP mismanagement
The former PLP Government’s actions will have a lasting impact on the minds of the Bahamian people of its mismanagement of the economy, crime, unemployment and increasing the debt with spending.
Toughen up law on phone use
The most mysterious phenomena of all times is the proliferation and saturation of the use of cellphones. Everyone has several, children as early as 2 years are playing games on the cellphone. iPad or kindle.
BTC must be commended
YESTERDAY marked the opening of the Commonwealth Youth Games at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium.
Setting an example
WHAT Island Country with seven letters beginning with “B” has a Standard & Poor’s rating as A Plus. Give up? It is Bermuda which, it has been said, is “a leading jurisdiction for re-insurance, capital markets”, etc.
Wonder woman
AS a PLP, I was devastated after the horrendous loss of May 10th 2017. Never before in The Bahamas has a party suffered such a loss. With my party holding just four seats in Parliament I was certain that the PLP, my party, would offer little or no opposition to the FNM with 35 seats in Parliament.
Legalising marijuana to cut crime
LEGALISING marijuana can reduce crime. Parents, guardians, siblings, cousins, aunties, uncles and friends mourn today because of the non-stop shooting deaths in New Providence. The cycle is all too familiar.
Rose-tinted view
Re: D’Aguilar: We’ll counter false information about country.
Mitchell's bid for leadership
THE Progressive Liberal Party will be holding a convention this year in order to elect a substantive leader, deputy leader and chairman.
A cruel analogy
AS an animal lover, I find the analogy “many ways to skin a cat” alarming made by the Minister of Tourism in the Business Section of today’s Tribune.
Sands continues to slash NHI
AFTER discounting the tax contributions of Bahamians and describing standard universal healthcare benefits as being “free”, Health Minister Duane Sands now says that Bahamians simply cannot afford the “burden” of taxes needed to maintain NHI spending levels.
