BahamianAway 11 years, 9 months ago on Bahamians ‘can’t find jobs in construction’

Let's not forget how Bahamian workers operate when on the job.

Joe Blow shows up at work around 10am when he was suppose to be there for 8am, he then takes a hour to get set up, leaving him with one hour in which to work before he jumps off at 12pm for lunch. He then takes a 2 hour lunch and comes back at somewhere after 2pm. He works for about 2 hours before claiming he needs to go and pick up his children at school for 4pm. Then he is gone all day....but he wants to be paid for an 8hr day. Heaven forbid his employer complains because then he wants to file complaints with the labour unions. Who then claim that Mr. Joe Blow is being overworked and underpayed.

Whereas the Haitian or Mexican who is so grateful to be able to work and send a few dollars home to their family will be at work from 7am, eat lunch while working, and continue on past the knock off time of 5pm and give no complaints when the boss man asks him to do a little extra.

Not saying all Bahamians are like this...but the vast majority of them have this attitude that they are entitled as opposed to be fourtunate they reside in a country where they have the opportunity to work.

The problem is that most don't want to work, they just want to get paid. I have ran work here for almost 10 years and sadly this is the case. Sometimes there are Bahamians that are qualified but are lazy and I would much rather have a hard worker who is willing to learn than a person who thinks they know it all and refuse to even show up to work on time and earn a days pay. It might not be all but unfortunately it is most.

This editorial is right on and nothing needs to be added. The jackasses who want to make it a racial issue are like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson who can accomplish nothing for their courntry except stirring up racial hatred.

I wonder what this stumpy little guy's highly educated children and the friends of his children must think of him. One can only begin to imagine the abuses this fella has already inflicted on so many and is prepared to go on inflicting on anyone given his failed moral compass that allows him to publicly declare that he stands behind the PM's warped sense of right and wrong. Just another clucking idiot!

All of these crony higher ups in the PLP will never discredit PGC. Even when his mistakes are blatantly obvious to the dumbest of the dumb. They still make excuses for his actions. For sure this is the last term for the PLP, hopefully for many years to come. We need some fresh, new, young meat in Parliament. These cronies are simply sticking to their own lazy agendas from the time they first entered politics, and we all know their main goal is to secure a healthy retirement in 'paradise' by gobbling up as much cookies as they can, making even the cookie monster look bad, before their exit. Who knows if they even have an agenda because we are definitely not seeing what we were promised. I hope this is the last lap for traditional Bahamians to see that the PLP is not the answer. We got independence yes, but that was due to Pindling on behalf of the PLP, but what else have we really gained as a country from this Party other than Urban Renewal?

So what's the point of Government House then...They have that big house sitting there for pretty. Utilize that if you want to entertain guest on behalf of the Bahamian people. I am sure there are enough rooms in there to facilitate such a thing.

Is this man so out of it or he is simply trying to distract the attention of the Bahamian people? With so many serious issues the country s facing, he is talking about new parliament and PM''s residence?

Who else also saw the headlines of this article and thought it was a new Parliament as in...push for an early election or vote of no confidence and replace the PEOPLE in Parliament? ;-) LOL

I love this man! He is the best Prime Minister that the Bahamas has ever had! He is my hope and my salvation! Because of his cursed policies, his abject stupidity and his reckless spending pushing the Bahamas into a downward spiral, my employer has decided to get the hell out, and instead of losing my job, I get a ticket off this cursed, pathetic limestone rock with its dysfunctional society. God Bless the PLP and Perry Christie. I am saved! This is better than a Christian rapture! Goodbye cruel land of my birth ... hello opportunity and a decent life!

John 11 years, 9 months ago on Cable Beach developer eyes $70m sales goal

Bahamians do not like stairs or elevators so many of them will not take to living in an eight story 'high rise even on the beach, even if they had the half million'. But you still must give Mr. Kinsdale kudos for taking the plunge on this project in an uncertain economy. So far all of his real estate ventures have bee successful. It will be interesting to see what happens to cable beach after Bah Mar is up and running. Property Value.

According to the stats . . In 2012 Miami had 69 murders or 16.7 per 100,000. (see http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-Mi…). According to stats for the Caribbean, The Bahamas had 120 murders in 2013 or 34.1 per 100,000 (see http://hospitalitybusinessnews.com/2014… ) . I bet if you took the murders only for Nassau the number per 100,000 would be 50-60.

Instead of complaining about the US Embassy the Government should do something about the crime.

Will Minister Mitchell ever realize that the US does not need us Bahamians to come to their country, but The Bahamas desperately needs tourist from anywhere and especially the US.

How on earth does this idiot get elected repeatedly and appointed a minister in the government? He must have some information on someone.

This article is poorly framed, lacks context and Mr. Mitchell's quotes if they are complete, show only one thing, that he failed to establish coherent thought for this interview/statement.

We shouldn't have to read into a news article. News should be bit more objective and accessible. However, I believe it is fair to say Mr. Mitchell is meant to be talking about local people making a fuss and giving weight that the US Embassy made a statement. He tried to compare that we make similar public statements about popular US Destinations as well. So just get over it, in a sense.

Oooooo...yes yes yes...Digicell does not like or recognize unions...BRING IT ON!! Unions are the direct cause for why our screwed up utilities and industry are the way they are today...I don't know how non-government business that are burdened by the unions manage to make ends meet, they will drag you down and bankrupt you, while the workers run around with scores of days off, perks, benefits, etc, etc. Thankfully, as a private employer, we have dodged the union bullet, but treat our employees with the respect they deserve and pay them what they are owed according to the labour laws of this country. We could not operate and would have to close our doors if unions came a knocking, it's really that simple.

If this were in the US he would never be allowed to preach and have a church. There would be so many protestors outside to make his life miserable. He would have no choice but to leave and go into hiding.
