Celebrate men too

Kindly allow me space in your column to congratulate Baha Mar Resorts for recognising and rewarding Male leadership on International Men’sDay.

Business not easy in The Bahamas

Inflation — alleged unnecessary cost increase of retail — merchants not passing reduction of Duty/Taxes on?

Concerned by changes by telecoms

I’m presently a director at a global internet service orovider. I started my career at BTC. I’ve been in telecommunications for more than 20 years. In the past, I’ve not commented on The telecommunications sector in The Bahamas, however, I think last week’s announcements and the comments deserves an editorial. Would you please permit this to be printed.

Transparency from Town Planning Committee?

The Town Planning Committee appears to be bending over backwards in its consideration of a commercial operation on the corner of Tropical Gardens and West Bay Street, despite the fact that has been resoundingly rejected by the community. What exactly is going on?

PLP must act over living cost

As the member of Parliament for Killarney, I have heard repeatedly from constituents as to how hard it is to make ends meet due to the high cost of living. The price of food is high. Gas prices are high. The cost of electricity is sky-high.

Ron DeSantis' incendiary comments may have been racially motivated

Being an unapologetic supporter of the Republican Party, I was deeply troubled by the inflammatory comments by Republican Party presidential nominee Ron DeSantis, the current governor of our next door neighbour in Florida. Like myself, and many evangelical Christians in North America and Great Britain, DeSantis supports Israel's right to defend itself against Hamas and other hostile Islamic states bent on pushing it into the Mediterranean Sea.

If it's going to be it's up to me

It is a time of global turmoil. War in Gaza, war in Ukraine and global inflation for the past three years have been oppressive.

Ignore Hubert Ingraham

On the very day of Hubert Ingraham’s unwelcome return to front-page politics, both our dailies ran stories about BTC, an institution built on the tax dollars of ordinary Bahamians, and which Mr Ingraham sold to foreign private interests for a measly $148m (when you factor in his saddling of Bahamian taxpayers with the sold-off asset’s pension bill).

ORG calls for more transparency

The Organisation for Responsible Governance (ORG) is committed to advancing the principles of transparent governance and accountability in The Bahamas.

‘This war is against Hamas’

Why is there a war in Israel right now? What are they fighting for and why is it so different from things that happened there in the past?

Ceasefire call from CARICOM

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM), aware of the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza that continues to worsen:

Shame on govt - $350 not enough

I have a tremendous amount of respect and regard for the Honourable Pia Glover Rolle, Member of the Cabinet of The Bahamas. Nevertheless, I feel it necessary to cry shame upon her suggestion that a minimum of $350 per week for people in The Bahamas would be “a little reckless”.

Watching BPL meters not so simple

Your editorial on the BPL late fee was apropos to say the least. On Sunday last I had a real lesson in humility, as I stood behind a lady who was checking out at a grocery shop. She emptied her trolley, one item at a time, eyes fixed on the register monitor, making sure she did not go over what she could spend, and every so often she would ask the cashier to cancel an item.

Power of the pen and democracy

With your kind permission I wish to offer an opinion on the power of the pen and the expression of democracy. Having written letters to The Editor since the age of 18, which was more than a few years ago, I have always enjoyed and appreciated the democratic freedom I possess while I express my opinion via the pen. I believe every human being in this country ought to have the right to express their opinion. And when that individual is prevented from the expression of an opinion, then Houston we have a problem.
