this is a dumb take. Tourists were not flying, nor would we have wanted the country open to bring in the disease in overwhelming numbers before we had established protocols to best protect our health. All Caribbean islands are suffering these same problems of restarting; everyone did the same thing, which has been praised by global health authorities. Minnis does many stupid things but his actions during this pandemic were warranted.

Don’t you think it’s in our long term economic interests to remain a safe destination for visitors? Also for those who work in the tourist sector and every other resident? If there’s a major outbreak, everything gets locked down again. How can that be good for the economy? IMHO, a safe destination is good for us now and going forward until Covid is no longer an issue.

“We advised Mr Woods that we cannot provide transportation at this time, due to the cost involved and that we are looking at all ways to preserve jobs. "
From that one line, it sounds like the hotel sought to temporarily suspend a particular service as opposed to permanently terminating more employees than they already have. I really don't see what more there is to discuss here outside of their initial communication with Mr Woods. Why would he need a 'lengthy / long discussion on it'. This is an "it-is-what-it-is". If anything, the union should be seeing how they can help their members by offering a transportation alternative in the interim. Sounds like Atlantis offered a compromise --> if they keep the transportation service then more folks would have to be terminated to address the cost. The whole world going through these issues...no time for the union to be grandstanding. Some hotels aren't even opening.

These union leaders really are terrorists to this country. First off, they never employ anyone, but want all the say. No tourist comic, the company trying to save jobs, and they give the solution to hold off transportation so they keep jobs. Only in the Bahamas we have stupidness where unions want the employer pay to drive people to work, Seriously?
Are these idiot union leaders aware of what is going on financially in this country right now? If I was the owner and they want to have an issue, fine, you have your transportation and as we don't have the finances we will send folks to the employment line.
It is sickening for union leaders who have never once taken the time to buy a hotel and operate it they always have much to say. Besides, why is he running to the newspaper. This is a private matter and they need to keep it like that. Sorry, I don't support the union on this one.

Bahamasair eyes baggage fees and ticket price hikes
PwC, which found that Bahamasair had not increased its ticket prices for eight years, called for the airline to better align pricing with the cost of service on its domestic routes between Nassau and the Family Islands.
In what world does PwC think this is true that Bahamasir has not raised ticket prices in 8 years. Maybe they living in an alternate reality.
And to top it off they want to raise baggage fees.
Maybe they just need to walk over to WesternAir and ask the owners there to give them a course on how to make an airline profitable without government subsidy. Maybe, they just need to SELL Bahamasair, cause it will never make a profit as a government run entity. Too many administrations use it as the cookie jar to hire their cronies for a vote.

If Government has to throw away The People's money to have an outside accounting firm tell it how to run Bahamasair, they should get the flock out of aviation.

This does not pass the smell test. We cannot be stupid enough to fall for yet another land grabbing snake oil developer.
Regardless of how much money Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong is supposedly worth, why would we be stupid enough to give him 500,000 acres without any proof of capability to actually produce anything? Does he have any experience in the aragonite business? Why givehim anything at all? If he has so many billions, why doesn't he simply buy what he wants?
This FNM government like Ingraham and Christie governments will also get swing by the usual crooked Bahamian lawyers and this billionaire. These people will promise heaven and earth to the Bahamas and as soon as the "toothless" heads of agreement are signed their project will drastically change and they too will disappear just like all the rest WITH the people's land!
Firstly, if we are stupid enough to entertain this nonsense, the government must be prudent enough to put clawback and proper escape clauses in the heads of agreement so this man has to produce per the heads of agreement. Secondly, any property should only be granted as needed for phased developments.

Exactly 100% correct. How did this billionaire become a billionaire? Are there any connections whatsoever between any of his holdings and the Chinese Communist Party directly or indirectly or anything at all to do with China?
We truly and seriously need to stop this nonsense of giving away our land for these pie in the sky offers. Never forget how NOBODY was able to do a head count of workers at The Pointe. All kinda people went down there to "inspect" but came away more clueless than before they went.
The greatest point here also is that Bahamians have been BEGGING since independence to get a piece of our land (that we supposedly now own from the Queen) - and are 90% of the time told "NO". Stupid Bahamian, too bad for you, go the the bank and make mortgage !!!! This has to stop.

19m dollars...the budget for the Attorney General's office.
All of the lawyers in the OAG, all of the ministers, the PM, the MPs, and no one bothered to read.
If we can't get simple dates right, what about complicated issues.
The same OAG was told from a Judge Ferguson-Pratt
" That’s criminal law 101." and to the prosecution "That was not anticipated? Madam prosecutor, this is your case.”
How much leeway will the crown give you when you tell them you forgot to wear your mask? The AG himself can't remember when his order was ending! I hope 19m will buy them a sticky note.

Time for The Colony's Attorney General Comrade Carl Wilshire to walk the same plank as Mr. Minnis had his former health minster walk.

“The Bahamas is an archipelagic country, and there are multiple ports of entry, so it takes a while for the word to get out to the troops on the ground. We expected a few hiccups on day one, and there will probably be some more on day two.
