This is so silly. The statement I'd like to hear from both of them is that everyone involved was fired from the campaign team.

This jackass must be suffering from bipolar disorder! Thank God his ass is retiring from the political arena. I find it flabbergasting that only persons from the bottom of the shit bucket usually offer themselves as representative of the people. The problem I have with these men and women is that they are insincere about their quest to help make the Bahamas a better place. When you hear them speak, you gatta take their speech like a grain of salt, because they only letting out hot air. In short, this she-man is just a show boat. The only reason he is retiring is because no one wants his shifty ass. This is the exact same reason why he is labeled as a political prostitute.

I wouldn't say they "deserve it". They haven't done anything to "deserve it". They will get "a chance", but that's because of the incompetence and unashamed corruption at all levels of the PLP. If they do well, they will "deserve" a chance in 2022.

FNM to start making good on tax promises in budget
As currently structured, the FNM's tax plan is stupid and ill conceived. Keep VAT broad based and low. Creating exemptions will only precipitate the eventual need for VAT to be raised, which no one wants. Eliminate business license fees and reduce duties further. The tax free zones will simply be abused by corrupt politicians and their cronies. Minnis is engineering his own scandal here and the people are watching. If he goes PLP Lite, which is what the people fear, the people will vote him out just as they did the incompetent and corrupt PLP. Minnis, be warned. We are watching you and your political friends just as we watched the PLP and their friends.

FNM: Promised repeal of VAT still planned
I'm really getting tired of different persons popping up here and popping up there with bits and pieces of what they intend to do but can't give anything with real meat on it. PLEASE, make one statement about the timeline for the planning effort and what that entails, that statement includes an estimated timeline for the following effort:
Meeting with respective staff to get an overview of ongoing projects, problems, new initiatives and things that might change. Meet with constituents with same objectives. Come back, meet as a governmental group, decide out of all that was found what will be priorities for the country then for each ministry and constituency in that order.
While this assessment is being conducted give us reasonable periodic updates so we know how things are going, are you on schedule, any new issues popped up etc etc.
THEN organize a major public press conference to give us the overview for the country. Let someone who's good at presentations and breaking issues down do it please, (not boring ministers. The boys under the almond tree should be able to grasp it) can be multiple persons if expertise required. You can even break this up into multiple working sessions, get collective input. You have smart people in this country use them.
REPEAT. Set expectations, perform assessments, do the work, updates.
Also very important, please make sure that you CLEARLY identify what will get done in five years... Well year by year

The politicians should listen to Mr. Bowe and the business community on this. It's not often that business people make it clear that low but broad based taxation is preferable to creating artificial tax breaks that, in the long term, will not benefit the poor in the slightest. The FNM's election plan on taxation was a gimmick for the gullible that should not be enacted. Keep VAT low and universal and focus on reducing other taxes like duties, business license fees and other red tape taxes that make doing business harder. Once you introduce VAT exemptions, the overall VAT rate will go up and abuse of the system becomes easier, neither is preferable. Turnquest and Minnis should have the maturity and realize that they have the mandate to change their mind on this topic with little political fall out, so long as the economy surges and employment returns, they will not have a problem or pay a price politically. If they create exemptions and then have to raise the base VAT rate as a result, that will create political fall out.

THE FIRST BIG MISTAKE OF THIS ADMINISTRATION . ALL THE SO CALLED BREAD BASKET ITEMS ARE NUTRIONALLY EMPTY AND WII CONTRIBUTE TO AN EVEN FATTER AND SICKER POPULATION PARTICULARLY AMONGST THE LOWER SOCIO-ECONOMIC GROUPS. GOOD INTENT ON THE PART OF THE GOVERNMENT, LONG TERM DISASTEROUS RESULT. DOCTORS TYPICALLY KNOW ALOT ABOUT SICKNESS BUT VERY LITTLE ABOUT HEALTH. THEY ARE NEVER TAUGHT ABOUT WHAT CAUSES HEALTH WHEN AT MED SCHOOL. A GOOD CLEAN DIET ALONG WITH EXERCISE ARE TWO OF THE FUNDAMENTAL PILLARS OF GOOD HEALTH.

No issue with stimulus to Bain and Grants town, just don't play with the VAT, exemptions mean rate hikes, pure and simple. Every and any economist will tell you that the best VAT is a low VAT. The government can use VAT funds to stimulate Bain and Grants town and other over-the-hill areas to their heart's content. It would be good for the people, good to redevelop those areas and, in the long run, good for Bahamians and our tourism product alike. Those are historic areas, with a good plan, something truly amazing could happen there. Think Jumbey Village meets organic farming, meets renewable energy, meets down home restaurants and bars with music and entertainment, meets artistic village. So much could be done with the right vision. VAT exemptions are not the right vision. They will only be exploited by corrupt politically connected types to run nefarious schemes to avoid VAT throughout the Bahamas. We are all Bahamians. We know how things go. Keep VAT simple and uniform, avoid confusion, eliminate duties and get rid of business license fees. The economy is ready to hum and purr like a Cheshire cat if those things are done. If we play with gimmicks, then we'll just end up with corruption and stagnation again. The PLP has done the hard work for the FNM in putting VAT in place. The FNM should do the smart reforms now, not the stupid ones like Minnis has proposed to date. Listen to the Chamber, these people aren't stupid, they are Bahamian and they want what's best for the country. Those people know how to create employment so do what they are suggesting and get out of the way and watch the VAT revenue pour in once duties and business license fees are retired.

i think people would not be complaining as much if customs duties had been significantly reduced and the business lice fees too.
why not just stop charging vat on duty? that is a good start. why not just half the business license fee?

This Ministry needs to be properly defined. Freeport is depressed and all he can talk about is Urban Renewal?!?
Freeport needs our hotels re-opened immediately. We need our casino re-opened. We need our landing fees reduced. We need a whole ton of help and Urabn Renewal is not a part of that equation. We need a healthy economic environment like NOW.
This ministry to date has done absolutely nothing to improve any aspect of Freeport. It has no mandate.
Give this ministry a proper mission immediately or close it down.

There are other taxes that the government can eliminate. Let us hope that the government listens to the people that actually run businesses in this country and employ people and not to popular sentiment. Every economist has warned the government that exemptions are a dangerous road and will destroy the efficiency and simplicity of the VAT. Creating exemptions only has one outcome, the base VAT rate goes up. Keep VAT simple. Keep it low. Eliminate other taxes and this economy will see growth again very quickly. Ignore the business community and confidence will go back to PLP levels. We've already had 5 years of negative growth, 5 years of recession under the PLP. Listen to the business community, keep VAT simple, keep it low, eliminate the other taxes and let's get this economy going again. Exemptions are a nightmare at the register, a nightmare to communicate to the customer and a nightmare for accountants, both private and public. Don't fooking do it FNM!

The FNM did not win the popular vote. In this country if a party gets the popular vote they become government.
The FNM, DNA and the independents COMBINED got more votes than the PLP.
But the FNM party did not win the popular vote....
