@ rory....America is legalizing pot state by state, it has long been a mister-meaner offence in Canada and Europe. Jamaica has sanctioned herb tours and Uruguay is the first country to fully legalize marijuana....
What does the Bahamas do??.......Increase mandatory jail sentences overwhelming Fox Hill prison with none violent pot heads, declare that nothing could grow here because the soil isn't right, burn every damn seed they can find and allow hardened criminals to rain mayhem and absolute havoc on society......??
For such a small country there sure are A HELL OF A LOT of jackass's here!!

Really a sad day ... I believe that murders which are commited via a home invasion should be classified as capital murders and punishable by the noose. Your home should be your sanctuary and if that is invaded then whoever has the balls to do that should be hanged by the neck until he is dead.

This Gang Unit should have been implemented years ago. The Gang Unit is what is actually helping both New York & Chicago crack down on gangs. You do need a permanent department that handles and focuses on just Gangs just like how the DEU focuses on just drugs. These gangs are behind serious organized crime. Just how the RBPF came out with Rapid Strike for crime intervention and gun removal, they should also bring that back to assist the Gang Unit, all unmarked and plain clothes. I must also admit that some officers take these types of responsibilities for granted and abuse their powers. So however these are implemented, officer safety, public safety and respect must also be adhered. Please bring the professionals out, not the bad attitude cronies. They have to recognize that profiling is not the answer, not everyone is a criminal and they must also announce themselves accordingly, and handle persons with respect. I can see this working, but because of the many misconducts of officers themselves, this can also be very detrimental to the whole initiative.

They are serious , look at their somber faces ..The funny thing is i see at least three people in the picture that don,t have a moral fiber in their body ..One of them is only there b/c as a police inspector on the PLP,S last term he could find any corruption in one of the others term concerning the low cost housing ...Truth be told we are a near moralless people that cloak it all in platitudes from the bible ,that really only survive b/c of our proximity to the US and large resorts desires to capatalize on it ,,,

I fear that it may just be more talk - BUT IF they are serious about building 10 more courts (or changing 10 existing buildings into courts, AND appointing more judges (and also don't forget the stenographers that OFTEN cause courts to shut down due to their desire not to show up to work "whenever they feel" - THEN it will be great.
It is the exact prescription that is needed (along with a database to handle the case scheduling).
However, I did not hear a date. If only the PM could say that there WILL BE 10 more courts with judges and associated staff in complete operation by March 31st or else the Permanent Secretaries of the Min of Works and the AG's office and the AG herself along with whatever 3 people are immediately in power below each of them (I mean 3 each) WILL BE FIRED IN THE INTEREST OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE (which he has the power to do) - THEN MAYBE he will get results.
He needs to make it clear that they ALL will be fired at 5pm March 31st if the courts were not in session (all 10 additional of them) on that day (a Monday).

Yes, how about a plan to educate the people. In my opinion that is where money needs to be invested.

Something needs to be done and quickly before our tourism industry crashes. Cruise lines have already blacklisted us and we've appeared on lists as a country that Americans shouldn't visit.
The criminals have gotten increasingly bold. I can remember when crime was mostly a night-time thing. Now people are committing crimes in broad daylight on Bay Street. I can vouch for it because I was robbed on Bay Street back in August and I still work in the area.
The police presence down here is strong but instead of actively patrolling they rather stand around with their worthless selves and take photos with tourists. You see them between Market and Frederick Street and that's it! And only where they meet Bay.
Something needs to be done. This is more than a politics thing. People seem to have no conscience these days. A human life means nothing to these people. I come to work and I go home. Nassau dangerous.

The "little emperors" solution to crime was to overwhelm an already overcrowded Fox Hill prison by throwing more young people in prison for longer periods for small quantities of pot possession and issue new shiny ankle bracelets and let all the hardened criminals run loose in the society.
Anyone with sense would have put the criminals in Fox Hill prison and use the ankle bracelets for the non violent pot offenders.
The country has gone to hell in a hand basket after 40 years of IDIOT rule.

Why the hell are we still locking up our people for personal use pot possession anyway? It is a misdemeanor offense in the U.S., Canada, Europe and everywhere else punishable by small fine.
Our prison is brimming over because The Bahamas is an extremely repressive democratic dictatorship.
Now the Prison is full, the people hungry and angry, untold thousands of illegal’s run the country and crime out of control....What are the IDIOTS going to do now? Lock up half the Island?
The state of our country unquestionably condemns the PLP & FNM as the worst leaders in the region.

Well I hope you all heard the news from the horses mouth that as long as the Privy Council exists, it is highly unlikely that the 'Death Penalty' will be sought. So the question is, Who is really in charge? I know Barbados and the latter also adhere to the Privy Council but at the same time, they are still carrying out the Death Penalty. Hell with the European Union, they have their barriers on crime but what does that have to do with us? Is this government taking 'governance' seriously? This is a prime example of the Government's focus and infatuation with Kleptocracy. This is a Kleptocracy, not a democracy, that is just for 'show'. Our criminals are using old brazen tactics and beat our system every time. I know that the man they charged out of the 60 people held for the Fox Hill massacre (for example), is probably telling the truth. The suspect has given substantial evidence that is alleged to not have placed him on the scene, video surveillance and all yet he is remanded until March for a trial. This is not due process, this is corruption to promote false confession in order to produce a so called 'speedy process'. We the people are not free. I advise everyone to start saving, not for VAT, but to get the hell out of here. The government is not focused on the people, they are more concerned with hiding the atrocities of a failed plan, mainly because of their Pride and now the Privy Council has them by the noose. I rather the Queen of England address us than Mr Oblivious Christie because it seems as if, he dont even care, or too old to possess the mental capacity that the boy who cries 'wolf' will not be taken seriously until it is too late. This whole scenario and many more is why Bahamians dont respect the law, and do as they please. The government is too busy asking others for advice, but how can they if they cant even recognize and relate to the 'average' Bahamian, their way of life. This is crazy, excuse to pussyfoot to excuse and more pussyfoot. I have lost hope for this country.
