Condolences to the family. Unfortunately until we as a nation either enforce the health and safety laws of the country or enact ones and then enforce them, these industrial accidents will continue to happen. Too often i have driven past construction sites and seen people 2-4 stories high with no safety equipment on, which is an accident waiting to happen.

This is exactly why we Bahamians need to stand up and fight all and any new taxes. The one thing our government does need is more money. Time for us to put our foot down now.

If a curfew is not iniated soon then this will continue or a high profile official/s will have to be murdered before any pro-action is taken because we seem to be stuck in the reaction mode !

it saddens me to read of so many violent deaths, But what ever we do, do not use these deaths as a political football. Do not credit when they increase or decrease. It is to serious for that It is not a PLP FNM or DNA problem. It is a Bahamian problem. The soil of our Country is soaked in blood.

The Privy Council's ruling against the death penalty is possibly being ignored by some people. Maybe they can fly over here and enforce their ruling.

This fella is a born Haitian ............ why is our Government wasting time trying to facilitate these ungrateful and devious people anyway????????? ........... Brent needs to put pressure on the Haitian Embassy in Nassau to get their people registered when they born or get work permits or get caught by Immigration ........ Haiti needs to step up and take responsibility for their citizens as provided for in its Constitution .......... We have enough of our own problems to deal with besides at least another 25,000 grown-ass Haitian citizen dodgers.

@sheeprunner. I am with you. Why do we have to expend so much energy on these illegals, when their country is right next door and they have an embassy right here? What are they doing? What is their part in the process?

“I refuse to grant stay for an injunction. The court finds it inappropriate to interfere in the decision making process of the Cabinet at this time,” Justice Weekes said on Friday. Having received her political directive from the AG or P.M.'s office no doubt. Another shining example of the decay of the rule of law in the Bahamas. In what way does this interfere with Cabinet? It seeks information on what the hell they're doing which affects BAHAMIANS!

Islandgirl 10 years, 2 months ago on Supreme Court dismisses application to stop Hawksbill Creek consultation

"with a view to.. enhancing Grand Bahama’s contributions to the government’s revenue base." Exactly how much more enhancement does this government need? Grand Bahama, Freeport in particular, contributes anywhere from $120 to 200 million to the government in taxes and other fees every year. Almost none of it goes back, but rather is absorbed into the wasteland of the "consolidated" fund for the betterment of New Providence and who knows what else. GB also pays car licencing, road traffic inspection and other associated fees, which are supposed to be for the upkeep of the roads etc, yet the Port actually takes care of that, so why are the people paying that. Then there is the absurd environmental levy fees they insist on being paid, but the Lucaya Service Company takes care of that, so again, where is this money going and to whose benefit? I may be off here, but isn't that supposed to be a tax free zone? But with the introduction of all these new taxes and methods of bleeding the place dry, it is driving businesses away to more friendly lands, further "enhancing" the decay of the place. The only time you see the politicians at the port building is when they are looking for money and that is the reality. These people have no interest in assisting Freeport or Grand Bahama proper; they want to "enhance" the amount of money they rip from the place. Can anyone say exactly what the Ministry of Grand Bahama's mandate is? From the poor school maintenance, the abysmal state of the courthouse in Freeport, the people still living in abandoned buildings and presumably on the beaches, the conditions of the outlying settlements and the climbing unemployment and overall misery, I see no point in having it. The government is "broke" and yet someone got a whole new plaza, opened new businesses for his sons ( all while serving in Cabinet), had a whole government ministry moved out of a government building and into his and his brother's where it pays one load of cash in rent, but the people's suffering gets worse and worse every day. It turns my stomach every time he and his cohort get up in parliament and brag about how Grand Bahama is booming. Booming for them, and no one else. Do these people see nothing wrong with the filth they perpetrate? How about you leave the money you all collect in taxes and by other means right in Grand Bahama, and let that money be used to help the place flourish like it should be? Let Nassau take care of itself, after all everything is there. The only thing you all need to be overseeing is that the Port does what it is mandated to do, since their hands aren't clean either. Together there is collective rape and abuse of the people and their money. Stop. We will never grow, prosper of move forward with this continued approach. Do what is best for your country and through that, yourselves, and stop with the self, family, friends and sweetheart elevation by dirty deals and thievery. We are collectively sick of you all.

PAC PLEASE keep a close watch on these people BEFORE they spend the money, they have proven to be very incompetent and they simply love these teachable moments. For every contract they hand out, get an independent qualified contractor to assess the reconstruction costs. They CANNOT be trusted.

(Btw You shouldn't experience any teachable moment for the same lesson you've gone through 30 times before, that's not a teachable moment that cause for dismissal due to incompetence)

Much of the supplies to rebuild will come from beyond these shores. I would like to hear from government that all levies are to be suspended on these supplies. No duty. No VAT.

Remember Bamsi, $500,000 school room, BEC bribe to purchase inferior generators causing untold cost to the public, VAT implementation with no spending accountability, gas prices remain stubbornly high despite going down to $2 per gallon in the US, BEC bills not going down with lower diesel costs, building prices up by over 50% duty to VAT layering, government slow in paying out VAT reimbursements, numbers shops opened without any licenses and against the people's will, Baha Mar staff payments of $5m per month, now hundreds of millions need to be spent to rebuild the southern bahamas. S&P will downgrade us to junk and we will need to devalue the currency.

TalRussell 10 years, 2 months ago on FNM Deputy asks if we should rebuild after the hurricane

The Comrades of the red party's recommendation translates to telling the last resident Crooked Island to shut off the lights on their way off the island - should fuel the anger of all island loving Bahamalanders.
Is this the best plan they have come the 2017 General? Is the complete displacement of your settlements what will happen to our islanders under a new red regime government?
I am sure a new red regime government would soon find some foreigner who would jump at such an opportunity to combine for the cheap price - an entire group of settlements while recreating an entire island into their profit making paradise.
Some may see this as clearing out the poor Bahamalanders to make way for the rich foreigner. But maybe not. Could just be me.
