When not to wear a hat

EDITOR, The Tribune.

A gentleman should remove his hat as he enters a building, including a restaurant, home, classroom, theatre, church. This rule includes baseball caps and casual hats.

Hats are to be removed when inside, except for places that are akin to public streets, eg, lobbies, corridors, and elevators in public buildings.

I am very baffled of late in seeing men not taking off their hats.

I attended two functions over the weekend and was taken aback how either out of ignorance or not knowing any better, this seems to becoming the norm with those who show no respect in removing their hats, even in church they keep their hats on, what has happened to the standards we once revered, it’s so sad across the board standards have been thrown out the door, today, anything goes.

It is very good that this important topic has been raised by this letter writer and I concur completely with her expressed views. Gentlemen's hats must always be removed inside. I must further mention that in a church last Sunday I noticed that there were several ladies attending the worship service who not only failed to wear gloves but also wore a dress that was so short that their ankles were on display for all to see. This sort of outrageous behavior must stop. If we continue to let our standards of common decency in our appearance to drop then who knows where it will end. Next thing you know judges and lawyers will be seen in court devoid of wigs and robes. I can only shudder at such loose behavior.
