A MAN was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison yesterday after being charged with the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl.
Livingston Miller, 52, of Davis Street appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney facing a single charge of unlawful sexual intercourse, alleged to have been committed between June 9 and 14 of this year.
Miller, however, was not required to enter a plea to the charge which is an indictable offence.
He was told that his case would be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial through service of a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.
He will appear before Chief Magistrate Joyanne Ferguson-Pratt on October 28 to learn which date this process will take place.
Magistrate McKinney concluded that the nature of the charge removed the court’s discretion to consider bail and further informed Miller that he had the right to apply for bail in the Supreme Court.
Miller has retained lawyer Donna Major to defend him.

Hold on now!! The charge of rape remove's the court's discretion to consider bail BUT YET all these people convicted of murder and attempted murder are getting bail. Something is seriously wrong with this. I believe that for both murder and rape charges bail should be denied. And... if convicted, rapists and murderer's should be slaughtered right away.
