The Trade Union Congress has called a national strike for today across New Providence and Grand Bahama, which they say will affect everything from hospitals to air traffic control to customs and immigration to hotel workers. Schools might also be affected.
The strike is expected to mobilise from 8.30am, possibly earlier.

Also if the prime minister asked the Commissioner of Police to resign then so should Bernard Nottage, Keith Bell, Leslie Miller, Obie Wilchcombe, Raynard Wells, Andre Rollins Alfred Gray, Shane Gibson, Brave Davis, Fred Mitchell and all the rest who had scandals and/or failures under their Ministries... MORE PEOPLE TRUST Elliston Greenslade than they trust the entire PLP government... I see a snap election in the wind.

What a difference 7 years make..sit and watch...not that it will make things better..it will only give some people hope. It is not (just) the government; it is the times we are living in. Not that Her Majesty's loyal opposition is not effective, but the PLP has more opposition from within itself for whatever it tries to do than from anywhere else. Too many special interests. A (governing) party divided among itself cannot govern.

Truth is several strike votes have been taken in as many Month's.
I agree with them SHUT THE DAM COUNTRY DOWN and deal with the PLP & FNM once and for all!
Demand an immediate Freedom Of Information Act as well, Referendum on article 7 of the Constitution, Referendum on income tax vs VAT and stop discrimination with Bahamians being prevented from gambling in casino's if they so desire!
Government is way out of control and not acting in the interest of the people.

They're attempting to bring this country to its knees to further their own agenda. It's despicable, and is more than a mere inconvenience. If BTC workers, for example, strike and we lose phone service, generally speaking it's not a major major issue. But when you tangibly affect our two main revenue stream - customs, and tourism - it's dangerous.

BTC workers would be a problem, do you know how many millions could be lost if a client can't contact their trader, trade cant go through or can't corrected?
I'm on the fence on this one, the worse the noise gets in the market, the more biggity the PM and Fred Mitchell get. They can't seem to understand that people are simply tired of their helter skelter funnelling of funds to every nonsensical project they dream up, rather than to critical infrastructure and human resources

Those who are blinded cannot see how the economy of the Bahamas is being shifted from the hands of Bahamians to foreigners. When Cable and Wireless came in not only did they strip hundreds of Bahamians of their ability to make a living selling phone cards, but they made the wholesale vendors sign exclusivity agreements where they could only sell BTC's products. Cable Bahamas, who sells the indigo cards took BTC to court and won and BTC was required to issue new contracts to its wholesalers that allowed them to sell other products. BTC was also fined $1/4 million but has yet to issue new contracts.

Before anyone embraces something new, they must first let go of what they have, be it legit or ill gotten, and that has not happened yet. There is not one organization or soul that will be unaffected by VAT. the rise in the cost of living, the record keeping and accounting requirements, or the penalties for non compliance. The landscape is changing, and we do not like change.

No disclosure on funding/disbursement for BAMSI. no disclosure on funding/ disbursement for Carnival. No report investigation at Blackbeard Cay YET. No report on missing funds at PHA No report on second audit at NIB. No detail report on costs of WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY gaming referendum No answer to illegal funds from gaming operations, local banks are obviously not satisfied.
The government needs to see how upset people really are. I don't think they get it. Consecutive governments have created an economy that continue to saddle the Bahamian people with debt and degrade the standard of living for most Bahamians. Many are hurting and many have fallen below the poverty lines. Man Bahamians who owned businesses several years ago now fid themselves as employees or without an occupation. Government's economic/investment policy has created two separate and apartheid economies in the Bahamas where one (consisting of foreigners and the select few Bahamians) consume all the bacon, while the majority of Bahamians are left to fight for the scraps that fall off the table. The latter is the sector that is most saddled with taxes and can no longer shoulder them. While the government spends millions subsidizing the tourist and casino industry, Bahamians are basically excluded from participating in these industries as owners. Now the power and communications companies are being sold out to foreign interests. Then there are the many foreigners, legal and illegal, who work in the country and export most of their earnings back to their home country. The Bahamian economy cannot continue to sustain all these leakages of revenue, and hence the national debt will continue to increase and the standard of living will continue to erode. And so yes Bahamians will rise up and rebel, but hopefully they will take their country back before it is too late.
