THE Carnival colours of the Eden Bahamas Carnival band were unveiled on Saturday.
Female and male models displayed the bejeweled, feathered and glittered head pieces, belts, and tops and bottoms that Eden’s masqueraders will don when they hit the road in May. Eden’s theme for this very first carnival is “Garden of Eden”.
“The costumes are based on this year’s theme, which lends itself to more sensual and sultry designs, but we will have options for persons who want more coverage,” said Eden’s director Rachael Allahar.
“We wanted to keep things lightweight and wearable to make sure our members are comfortable and can enjoy the parade. We focused on creating appealing designs that people not only want to wear, but also can wear for the entire day.”
Eden’s launch party at Pirates of Nassau drew a huge crowd of Carnival enthusiasts eager to see what the band’s costumes would look like.
Eden’s section names include: Macaw (bronze and yellow costumes), Lusca (pink and blue costumes), Viper (green and black costumes) and Poison Dart (orange and fuchsia costumes).
Playhouse DJs played Bahamian music and Eden’s crowd danced on into the night despite the rain.
The group launched its website, www.edencarnival.com, last week.

The police are going to have their hand full. Rape will be a big problem. Bahamian males are not mature enough to handle this in a sensible manner. Just look at the amount of feeling up and groping that happens at junkanoo in the crowd. Bahamian men on a whole do not understand how to respect females. Good luck.

It is very reckless..better yet.. ignorant of you to make such a sweeping generalization about Bahamian men. Since you used the example of Junkanoo, perhaps, you should evaluate the socioeconomic class of the males you have observed display such behavior. There are many Bahamian males that do not act in this manner and that are law abiding, hardworking, educated, mannered, well-traveled and exposed. Seriously, which era are you from? In short, you're an idiot.

They're correct, conversation I had with another female was in regard to what you could wear here as opposed to other countries. The young men are IMMATURE. they are being bred by sex crazed leaders who show them daily that life's purpose Is to have as much sex as possible. They objectify women, they learn it early.and not that you don't have sex crazed young men in other countries, it's just in most other countries you have a greater percentage of men making greater use of the brain in their head.

@coralharbour do you think asiseeit is lying. There is a huge problem at Junkanoo with small groups of men assaulting women. And yes there is a group of men that do know how to act. One bad apple spoils the bunch. Let's just hope that it does not happen to a blonde blue eyed visitor, the black eye will only get bigger. We are known in the U.S. media now for being a violent place to visit (not to say other places around the world are not) but for the size of OUR country and OUR population we carrying on bad. Better yet we need visitors to survive because where will this country be without them. Sadly over the years we are tearing it apart. Lastly to call names is exactly how it starts off, hence our value and respect of others and their opinion is what we are reaping today. Name calling then violence that's what we do these days.

I do not think the person is lying. However, it does not take much to be correct in one's language. Bahamian society is plagued with ignorance because people value 'word of mouth' over finding facts for themselves. I cannot see any upright Bahamian male agreeing with this. It was an ignorant generalization hands down. As for the topic of Carnival I hope that it is a huge success sans any rapes or Junakoo-like behavior.

I believe that we should try and broaden OUR culture and not that of other countries. I had a friend tell me an idea that he had, told the PM his idea, and he ignored it. He had an idea that we should have some sort of country competition and we showcase our culture versus other countries (Trinidad, Guyana, and so forth). I thought it was a great idea. It would bring millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of people into our country. That way we showcase our culture against others and tourists can witness what WE have to offer.
I hope this carnival idea is successful, but how can we celebrate "Junkanoo Carnival" and then have Junkanoo in December/January? When I go to Trinidad, they celebrate their culture. They don't have "Carnival Junkanoo".

I love the idea if a multiple day cultural festival, I just wish it was designed around Junkanoo. I still don't understand why our leaders believe people don't like Junkanoo? They absolutely love it. They like soca and reggae, I like soca and reggae, but there is NOTHING like Junkanoo and you don't have to be Bahamian to feel it. Travel with any Junkanoo group as they participate in international parades. This festival's purpose could never have been to take Junkanoo to the world
