Reforming male identity in our culture

EDITOR, The Tribune.

“You like man.” It’s a phrase we heard in recent years, and it has become a cliché in everyone’s minds to revile men who are “soft”.

It needs to be removed immediately from our language, so that every male matters to society.

Regardless of what you may believe, man is not meant to fit into any of these moulds, or be classified in these ways. It is a crying shame that we put these labels on individuals for being “different”.

Males who are soft and sentimental can be viewed as “sissies”, in our society. Most of the times, they are allured to the arts, and they are viewed as second class because they are not interested in sports or video games.

When last have you heard of a young male who is interested in playing music as a career? Hardly, I assume?

That’s because there’s been a brain drain of men who are capable of excelling in the arts, but who don’t pursue it because of society’s labelling. His skills can provide a way of escaping the harsh world of reality out there.

Let’s not discourage them from reading or expressing themselves in different ways; variety in the human race is the key to a successful society.

Oftentimes, the sentimental fellow who people shun, especially females, is the best man for the job in a relationship.

After all, what kind of woman would want a man who beats her, takes advantage of her and is misogynistic in his ways.

We should celebrate these sentimental males, they are the key to mending the broken mentality we have that being different is bad, and that you should take on an aggressive outlook on life.

Good points anonymous, distinguishing between sissys, and those men who don't fit into the mould of hyper-masculinity.

I've actually heard people telling girls 'bey you like man aye' as a diss, not realizing the stupidness of what they are saying....

Anyway, as for the arts, check out my new mixtape 'Lock up the Trap'. It's all about Nassau.
