56 Bahamian millionaires target election wins

SOME of the Bahamas' wealthiest individuals, including 56 millionaires, are

battling to become MPs in the General Election.

Financial disclosures submitted for 133 candidates show a vast range of

backgrounds, from the super rich to candidates who declared no salary.

Bain and Grants Town candidate Rodney Moncur includes in his assets

breakdown property such the New Oxford Dictionary, worth $500 and more than

25 trees, including six banana trees and four almond trees at $250.

Mr Moncur, a taxi driver, records a salary of $60 per week. His net worth is

$326,470.

Rival contender Dr Bernard Nottage declared a net worth of $8.18 million in

2012.

Minister of Health and Killarney FNM candidate Dr Hubert Minnis has a net

worth of $10.9 million.

DNA leader Branville McCartney is the wealthiest party leader, with a

declared net worth of $6.5 million.

Prime Minister and FNM leader Hubert Ingraham declared $1.9 million while

PLP leader Perry Christie declared a net worth of $2 million.
