Do we really need more discussion? Can we not just settle a few issues and move on to the next issue that need attention? Or, do we have to always bring in the Christian Council dinosaurs to hold our national progress back to prehistoric times?

I think it should be legal for recreational use as well. Just create a card (with annual fees) for people to buy recreational/medical cannabis. Then we can tax the farming of the plan as well. Give Bahamians land, crown land for hemp operations for our local and potentially regional marketplace.

We got millions of people that come through our country every year, lots of tax money can be generated off of their cannabis consumption as well. We also get to decrease our incarceration rates.

Why the hell are we even wasting time on this subject when the 1st world has already set the status quo?

Pfizer, one of the worlds largest drug producers, has cancelled plans to increase prices on a number of drugs it produces. The action comes after strong criticism from Donald Trump about the company’s already high drug prices, as well as anticipation that patients will be seeking less expensive forms of medicine, including medical marijuana. While there is no need to rush to create laws, The Bahamas must be aware of what is going on, as most of the world moves towards legalizing medical marijuana and able to react when it is caught up in situations like when someone travels to these islands with prescribed marijuana in their possession. It will not always be in the ‘weed’ form as was made clear by persons already using medical marijuana. And also persons who are pushing to have marijuana legalized for recreational purposes should be aware that a drug you have been using (smoking) for most of your lives will not have the same medicinal benefits to you as it will have for someone who takes it short term and to treat specific symptoms. The miracle drug will not work miracles.

Medical marijuana, Yes. Theoretically, it is already permissible in the Dangerous Drugs Act although as with almost everything else in this country we don't know how or if it is actually being utilised. Perhaps the Minister of Health would tell us as it falls under his jurisdiction. He could also tell us whether his government intends to permit medical marijuana as all he probably has to do is create the requisite regulations, processes and procedures for this to happen. Doesn't have to be a long or drawn out process.

We should also decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana, say possession of 10 grams or less but not any other drug.

Recreational use of marijuana, sorry No. There's a reason marijuana and some other drugs are called "dope" and that's because that's what the user becomes while under the influence of these drugs. In the wrong hands or abused and overindulged and marijuana becomes addictive. Users/abusers lose their drive or passion to work, to bathe, to socialise and can't be left in charge of vehicles, machinery or anything else.
