I support an oil refinery however I cannot trust the Government to protect our environment and negotiate a deal that is favorable to all Bahamians.

The Bahamas should really be leaning more towards companies that are involved with renewable energy. For the life of me I don't know why our governments are so hooked on doing business with industries that are not good for the Bahamas.

So yall saying that we don't do business with big oil conglomerates and do do business with big renewable energy conglomerates? I guess our environment is better than the USA, CA and other developed nations who have oil refineries. . .with the USA having the biggest one in the Caribbean on St Croix Island for the last 30 to 40 years without any problems? I marveled at the BNT for their statement: that the government was irresponsible for not awaiting on the EIA report before it made its decision. . .BUT WE WILL NOT SUPPORT THE PROJECT EVEN IF WE DON'T HAVE A EIA TO BASED OUR DECISION!! Same thing they are calling the government irresponsible for they are doing. . .making an environmental decision without the EIA . . .how professional. . .down right hypocritical if you ask me. . .

The government was wrong in the way it carried out this deal, but from the beginning I look beyond that because of the fact that every big project that involves the environment there is a stink, this is not the last one. And for all those projects that do go against the wishes of the people once they become successful the issue of the environment is soon forgotten. As I stated yesterday, Bimini Bay, STATOIL, BORCO, Baha Mar, Freeport City, I'll bet the dredging of Atlantis as well. I think we are missing the whole point here, the government is doing what government does, try to provide jobs for its people. The approach is wrong yes, but their heart is in the right place. Its unfortunate it has turn into a political football field. Me personally I care less if it happens or not and after all this noise I wish they would scrap the project...It will not change my financial position or my lifestyle, but for the sake of the people, bring it on.

The deal is incredibly short sighted.
