BAHAMAS Power & Light CEO Shevonn Cambridge rates BPL’s performance an eight out of ten.
“I would rate BPL’s performance as an eight,” he told reporters during a press briefing last week. “I am a part of a chat group with other CEOs from throughout the region. And the problems that we’re having are not necessarily unique to us. As I said, the demand, everybody’s having the same thing, with the challenge of raising rates in this economic environment. And so, I would say an eight. “
BPL has sometimes struggled to provide reliable energy this summer, which has already produced power consumption records.
BPL initially projected a power peak of 265MW this summer, but the peak in New Providence has already been 278MW.
BPL’s peak months are August and September, so officials anticipate surpassing 280MW.
Free National Movement leader Michael Pintard said yesterday that while Bahamas Power and Light’s performance may be better than others in the region, BPL must not be content with its service inefficiencies.
“While the performance of our utility company may be better than some in the region, we should be very careful not to be contented with inefficiencies and poor decision-making that hinders us from not only providing cost-effective energy for residents and businesses but also prevents us from becoming a net supplier of clean energy to neighbouring countries,” he told The Tribune.

This idiot Cambridge is totally incompetent and should be immediately fired for his "eight out of ten" rating of BPL. And for him to say with a straight face that BPL's performance as a utility company is better than others in our region like Haiti really takes the cake. What a moron!
Roly-Poly Davis has approved BPL being mismanaged by the most incompetent people he could find, and then he selected Slo Mo Sears to ensure and oversee its abysmal performance at great cost to the Bahamian people.

I also have to assume that everyone else in the region also cancelled their fuel hedging program? Morons do like to stick together so maybe it was a WhatsApp group decision. I just wonder what the thinking was. Let's stick it to the man... I mean consumer?

The rantings of the many degreed "Captain Oblivious" are equivalent to the orchestra playing while the Titanic was slipping beneath the waves. At least the sounds of the orchestra were harmonious compared to the discordant utterances Captain Oblivious is belching out.

It is amazing how our leaders (political & corporate) pick and choose when to compare The Bahamas with First World and when to use CARICOM as the preferred yardstick.
It is never a good thing when our leaders would use CARICOM as a yardstick for comparing our utilities.
This CEO should be fired for just saying this ......... That should make every Bahamian burn with indignation.

Why is it that we in the Bahamas have to pull each other down. This is reflection of an inferiority complex. The CEO of the BPL is an outstanding executive and should be allowed to turn the company around. Please give him a chance. Build him up . Don’t pull him down.
