A FIFTEEN-year-old boy is the victim of the country’s latest homicide, bringing the murder count for the year to 26.

Residents identified the victim as Chester Rolle, Jr, affectionately called “Pigeon”.

Chief Superintendent of Police Chrislyn Skippings said officers at the Grove Police Station heard gunshots on First Street around 9am on Monday.

“The officers responded on foot, and once to this area, they were directed to the body of a male with multiple gunshot injuries to the body," she said.

“Information received was the victim was alongside an older sibling when a small grey Japanese vehicle pulled alongside them. A male emerged with a high-powered weapon, firing multiple gunshots and striking the 15-year-old youth.

“His older sibling was unharmed during the incident and was able to make good his escape.”

CSP Skippings couldn't say whether the older brother was the intended target, but confirmed the victim was a resident of the area.

“I want to assure persons who are listening that The Bahamas remains safe," she said. "What we see happening are isolated incidents.

“Again, it goes back to the family, when persons are not trained properly, when they are not taught to respect people’s property, and people, this is what you see spilling out.

“If persons don’t respect their fathers, their mothers, their siblings, it’s going to spill over into the community, and so that is what we see happening. Parents and guardians need to take a grip of their families.”

People believed to be relatives of the youth were inconsolable at the scene.

Officers said they would increase patrols in the area.

CSP Skippings sounds like a badly rehearsed politically correct response. The government never takes responsibility for anything!

Political puppets are again being used to manipulate the narrative by "blaming everything on the family" to hide 50 years of failed leadership!

We are reaping what the PLP and FNM sowed for the past 50 years. The undeniable fact is they brought us to where we are today.

The "family" has been warning successive administrations for 5 decades of the obvious dangers and repercussions of failed natural resources, education, immigration, sustainable development, etc.

Both parties are totally deaf, blind, and especially dumb when it comes to looking out for the well being of Bahamians!

It does seem badly rehearsed

"Again, it goes back to the family, when persons are not trained properly, when they are not taught to respect people’s property, and people, this is what you see spilling out."

No it goes right to Parliament, corruption and a general sense of disorder that's been allowed to go unchecked for at least 7 years. Did it miss the spokesman that a police officer is currently in custody for this weekend's drive by shooting with multiple rounds of ammunition found at his home? Assuming they're not police issued...

"Officers said they would increase patrols in the area"

Shouldnt this area already be "saturated" with patrols? And it's probably the rival turf that'll be the next target, not this one.

"want to assure persons who are listening that The Bahamas remains safe," she said. "What we see happening are isolated incidents."

Everyone who's listening knows "something" unusual is happening that doesnt negate the fact that it's happening and safety is at risk.

Words cannot adequately express utter national failure.

The U.S, Department of State is getting ready to throw The Bahamas in the same very high travel risk bucket as Haiti while Governor DeSantis is considering the need for increased restrictions to be imposed on persons travelling to the U.S. from The Bahamas where their first point of physical entry is located anywhere in Florida.

Bahamians travelling to the U.S. using only a current police certificate and their Bahamian driver's license may soon be a thing of the past thanks to the failure of the Davis led government to control the escalating level of violent crime.

The murder rate per capita in The Bahamas is now at an all time high and continuing to rise. And the U.S. Department of State is attributing this to the rising level of extreme poverty as opposed to a one-off crime wave.

Is thus the US State Departments view or your twisted opinion? The violent crime , especially gun violence is much more out of control than it is in The Bahamas . Just watch the number of shootings that will occur during spring break. The situation here is unacceptable but the killings and not random and not mass killings. They are targeted specific and the country is doing its best to tackle the problem and curb the killings.before the US State Department can take any of the drastic actions buoy propose it must ask the question ‘what threat does tge current crime situation pose to Americans in the BaHAMAS. It must also ask the question ‘what will be the fallout to American companies doing business in or to tge Bahamas, like cruise ships and hotels and airlines and companies that cater to and supply these businesses. It must also ask the question ‘what evidence is there that Bahamians traveling to Americapisr any three bit anymore greater than the average visitors traveling to that country and is America willing to forgo tge several Billions Bahamamians spend in the US every year on travel, shopping, school and college fees, medical and surgical treatment etc. You trying to make a mountain of an adverse situation. Bahamas and Bahamians are trying to fix that situation . You can’t come Across any Bahamians who say it is their intention to bring harm to any American. And they anxiously await the FBI’s investigation of the two American tourists who claim they were raped in Freeport

How much of our taxpayers money has it cost to install and monitor the Shot Spotters system that the Christie government installed with great fanfare? It seems to be useless and a total waste of money, in fact much like the ........

These killings have a root cause that no one wants to deal with. The problem is drugs. Marijuana is main reason for this rise in crime and killings. And now they talking about legalizing this dangerous drug. Let’s get real and honest.

Half of the states in the US have legalized marijuana and generally crime has DECREASED in those states along with gradual declines in the consumption of marijuana. The problem here is the majority of marijuana on the streets of New Providence has been weaponized. Legalizing it will allow a better control over what is being sold on the streets and eliminate the turf wars and the alleged funding of criminal activity through the sale of illegal ( and weaponized) marijuana. The body of an eleven year old girl who went missing in Texas on her way to school was found in a river. A suspect who has a criminal record that includes sex criminal including indecent assault on a minor in In police custody and expected to be charged with murder along with o other charges

Are you aware of the negative effects of this mistake on the legalization of this dangerous gateway drug in the USA. The sad evidence is that marijuana use leads to the consumption of harder drugs like fentanyl, heroin and cocaine. Is that what we want in the Bahamas? No. I don’t think so. Please get real.

‘ he was my world, my closest friend the person I spent the most time with, now he’s gone!’ The words of the elder brother of the college student found shot to death in a Chicago college dorm, along with a female companion. Another student at the college, and known to the couple has been arrested and is facing possible charges of the double murder.

. ‘These are supposed to be institutions of higher learning, ‘, Says one administrator, ‘But we have to be involved in so many other things, like students or faculty being killed and having to mourn for them and bury them and having to keep the campus safe, it really defeats the purpose of being an institution of higher learning.’ . Imagine the sorrow of the family of this young 15 year old Bahamian child, Having his life snuffed out at such a tender age. Imagine the trauma of the older brother, tge feeling of helplessness to see his younger sibling being shot multiple times and his life taken away. And God told Cain’ the earth cries out for your son’s blood that has been spilled.’ Because yet we are out brothers’ keeper. And as the earth becomes even more filled with hatred and violence life becomes more sacred and even more uncertain. For tomorrow is promised to no man.

What IS the reason for this surge in violent crime, and WHAT is Government DOING about it?

0

John 2 months ago

The surge in violent crime is global. Fifty one mass shootings in the US alone for the year. There were warnings that this would happen after the pandemic in addition to increases in mental illnesses and deviant sexual behavior. Like other governments around the world, The BaHAMAS is hoping bthe situation wears away. But in the main time trying to bring criminals to swift justice. Is this behavior a result of populations being locked down?
