A 44-year old man is dead after he was shot multiple times early this morning in a home invasion in Blair Estates.
According to reports, sometime around 1.40am the victim was at home along with his family when three men kicked in the front western door to his home.
The victim reportedly got his licensed shotgun and went to investigate. He encountered the three suspects inside his home, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
There was an exchange of gunfire between the resident and the assailants resulting in the homeowner being shot multiple times. He died on the scene.
One of the suspects was also shot to the chest. The men escaped in a silver Honda Accord.
Shortly afterward, according to police, a female driver showed up at PMH with a male passenger suffering from gunshot injuries to the chest.
He was rushed into surgery and is listed in critical condition.
Responding officers took the female driver of Rocky Pine Road into custody for questioning.
Police are also searching for 18-year-old Kevin Andrews of Faith Avenue in connection with the incident.
The country's murder count now stands at 96.

When we are not safe in our own homes is when I challenge anyone to tell me The Bahamas is NOT a FAILED NATION! This man was at home and he was KILLED, WTF people, when will enough be enough? One other thing, what in the hell do these criminals think people have in their homes? Who carry's ANY amount of money home? Not good is an understatement, this man was at home with his family. Nobody is safe in this cesspool we call The Bahamas. The politicians are the ONLY ones who seem to be OK with the situation. Regular, law abiding citizens are prisoners in their own homes and even then they are not safe. When will the powers that be get the fact that this country is on the brink of becoming, if not already a failed nation? Who will visit such a murderous country? This story has gone around the world, people take notice, The Bahamas is KNOWN to be UNSAFE. Bahamians are trying to get out in numbers never seen before. Parents are telling their children who are away to stay away. All the while our failed leadership, FNM and PLP, trade schoolyard insults in the HOA and offer NO HOPE. This country had better wake up and wake up fast because there is no time left, this is it!

Where is the voice of the Christian Council? Citizens Against Crime?and all the rest of the crew who profess to be standing out against this monster? If people are passionate about something they will agitate until there is change. Agitation involves heavy emotions and sometimes even civil unrest. By the looks of things I don't see no one crying out. This shows that the majority of Bahamians are still in the dark about what the end results of what is happening now will be. We are not learning from our neighbours in the south.

I call it like I see it, this country has become a cesspool and if you do not think it is unsafe you are kidding yourself. The violence in this little nation is out of control, that is what happens when you have an uneducated population that does not know how to express themselves with words. The political leadership of this country is a total failure and should hang their heads in SHAME. Greed is their first master and the people be dammed. Petty politics is their second master, just listen to their antics in the HOA, SHAMEFUL and PETTY. The people had better wake up and let their voice be heard. We have been led astray by stupid political party's when we are all BAHAMIANS, not FNM's or PLP's as they would like you to think. Heartbroken! This was family. These thugs bust down 2 doors...all the while calling out that they were the police. He died as a true hero protecting his family. Also...the article fails to mention that this thug who was shot was on bail. This country is an insane asylum that is being run by the inmates!!!

And even after this- they will be allowed back on the streets to kill and kill again- this is a tragedy. These young people are rampaging and have blood in their eyes. Anyone who enters a private home at 2am wants a confrontation and should be met with force every time. Its a true shame that this young man has been lost. The civil rights of anti-social thugs like those who took his life should not trump those of law abiding citizens and the lives of those citizens. The one who got shot, the girl driving and the 18 year old who they are looking for- should all spend the rest of their lives in jail or meet the hangman's noose.

The sad thing is when an innocent homeowner is armed he would try to give a warning before firing off a shot. But armed intruders do not have that type of consideration. They will shoot at first opportunity. Also Mr. Cartwright may have had in his mind that the men may have been police officers. That gave the intruders the advantage and they proved to be raw born, cold hearted, blood thirsty killers.

What could someone have in their home that is so valuable you are willing to burst their doors down and confront them for it. KILL them even. Usually when robbers are met with even a slight bit of resistance they would leave and try find another victim not wanting to confront the police. When it gets to this level of bold and violent crime, law abiding citizens will lose the motivation to get up and go to work anymore.

just a few days ago, a neighbour told me that people were going around pretending to be the police to enter homes or stop cars for car jacking.
same neighbour said there is a woman who comes to the door crying saying her children are hungry and a male accomplice comes and robs you.
i cant recall hearing any warning from the police.
because rapes are down and the mister says "homeinvasions are nothing new"

Doesn't it say something that they can act like that and be believable? Crime isn't the Commissioners fault but he should practice publicly distancing himself from bad behavior. No more vague "this is an internal investigation" statements with NO updates. Your bad behaving officers are examples for criminals. he should have aleady made some statement to the country about what officers are allowed and not allowed to do when they stop you on the road or approach you at your residence. I didn't see the evening news,maybe he did if he didn't he is wrong. Dr Nottage is a very poor minister of National Security. Bell was a poor choice as minister of state. As I have stated in blogs thousands of times, many of us get angry and feel pain when things like this happen. When someone is murdered, there is a robbery a home invasion or a rape. Then we cry out about the government and we cuss the police and play the blame game. My point is that a person does not jump from an infant to a 21 year old with a gun to kill or rob someone overnight. It takes 21 years for him to get to that stage (or 18 or 19 or however old he is when he turns to crime). We (this country) have gone through forty years of increasing crime and violence, where now, we are even at the point of brother against brother and father against son. We are losing over 100 young men every year for almost 10 years, and now we have become so helpless, we start to look in their lifestyles to blame them for getting killed. We need to start looking at the persons who are raising these children to turn into cold blooded, stone hearted murderers and the environment they grow up in. That is what needs to change first. This country needs to stop breeding and nurturing killers and criminals. Focus on the parents and family who supply them with these killer-training video games and violent and crime filled movies and allow their children minds to be channeled and programmed to become gangsters and criminals and murderers. And they watch them play it and think its so cute. Why should a 6 year old child be playing a video game that allows him to gun down local citizens and rewards him for killing cops? That's why so many killers in this country have no feelings or emotion about taking lives. They were trained to do it from they were a child.

So very sad and so scary. Who is safe in this land if they can bust down doors, which is very noisy and still come in after they are told that the homeowner has a gun? And Dr. Nottage says they will introduce more programs, what a joke! This is a serious national problem that they need to call an immediate enclave of intelligent professionals, local and foreign experts to come up with a NEW solution. I don't want to hear about more police cars, more hired officers, more overtime etc. THey don't stop people from getting killed. we need DRASTIC measures. We might have to curtail certain freedoms like in war time, but aren't we living in a war zone now?

Deepest condolences to the family and friends. I recall seeing that the PLP had the solutions to the crime problems during their campaign for election. Did they lose the paperwork? Things are worst now! How do you eat an elephant? Answer: bit by bit. We need to see the step-by-step strategy to coping with the situation. The battle will never be won, only managed. Why? New militants are born daily. But let's do something now. I saw Bernard Nottage on television last night offering excuses for the situation! I was flabbergasted. Is there a strong leader somewhere in the country? Please come forward quickly.

This man is related to me. He is my friends uncle. Here's proof, he died in Florida in August 25th 2014 and his last name is Smith but I don't know his first name though.
