Shopkeeper shot in week’s fifth murder

A shopkeeper was shot in the back and killed after he and his brother tried to escape from three armed gunmen who entered their store in Nassau Village last night.

Police say that the brothers tried to flee when they realised that the men were armed. The incident occurred shortly after 8.30pm.

Police Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle told The Big T, “As they were running one of them was shot in the back”.

“The (victim’s) brother put him in a private vehicle and was en route to hospital when he was intercepted by police who noticed him speeding.”

Emergency medical personnel were called to assist, but the man died before he could be taken to hospital.

The other brother was uninjured.

The incident happened less than 24 hours after off-duty police officer Sergeant Wayne Rolle was shot in the head and killed on Durham Street.

This latest incident brings the country’s homicide count to 114 –  the last five occurring in what was a busy week for police.

On Thursday morning, a man was shot and killed by two gunmen when he got out of his car to remove stones from the road on the East West Highway.

On Tuesday, a man was shot dead while standing in the Soldier Road area.

And early Monday morning, 23-year-old Taran Antoine Greenslade was shot in the head and killed after getting into an argument with a group of men over a woman inside a nightclub in Coral Harbor.

Hey, no problem ... if the guys are caught they know they can get out on bail and shoot some more citizens in the back. The guy arrested for killing the police officer was out on bail for killing TWO people. There is no disincentive for being a criminal in the Bahamas. None. We just love criminals ... look how many we have put in charge of the country!

Our politician's and layers seem to love our criminals. They are telling us Bahamian's, loud and clear, "Long Live our Murderers and Rapists! We Will Protect You! We Will Never Impede Your Right To Murder, Rape and Pillage!"

The government must address the "illegal weapons" issue NOW! It appears that the country is either awash with small arms ............... or that there is an underground criminal ring trading guns for drugs or renting handguns to criminals or hitmen for hire............. its a select group.

The illegal weapons must be traced and the owners held accountable ....... why is the RBPF not working with Interpol, FBI etc to solve this problem????? The guns come from US and Europe etc. They can be traced .................... guns and bullets have serial numbers/markings just like cars

One is presumed to be innocent, until proven guilty,(by magistrate or a jury of one's peers). Here is where the solution to our problem lies. Its right there at the source. The people who are less likely to discern the truth, are the ones who determine what is the truth of a matter. Discard the 'free on bond' mess, where incarceration is on account of a serious crime. One's right to freedom must never be summed up to supersede the rights of any other person. Natural Justice must run its course, once facts have been ascertained.

Observer ................... your pseudo-legal language is profound ............... but in the final analysis, a person who is caught in the act of committing murder while out on bail for murder should have no right to seek bail ................ any word on how the Long Island murder case is going?????? because very few Long Island murder cases are ever solved

It's "open season" for law abiding citizens...by both our politicians and our criminals...(which seem to be one in the same)...

We must get rid of bail for anyone charged with murder and hang those found guilty.
