A 21-year-old resident of Bain and Grants Town has launched a campaign to run as an independent candidate in the next general election.

In a statement, Travis Robinson said his campaign is about “providing solutions for all”.

“For years, Bain and Grants Town has been yearning for meaningful change,” he said. “A change so dynamic that it ensures the education of our residents, particularly our youth, combats crime within our community, creates job opportunities, sustains health, and expands the development of Bain and Grants Town. My campaign seeks to bring this kind of change to fruition. And now is the time that we will do so.

“We’re doing this now to eradicate the trend of illiteracy in our youth, eliminating this idea that finishing high school and going to university is not an option. We’re doing this now to create a safer environment for our residents, one where the next generation can be nurtured and brought up without worry. We’re doing this now to provide a better chance of employment for our well-deserving residents, giving them a chance to provide a better way of life for their family. We’re doing this now to highlight the beauty and expose all the potential (Bain and Grants Town) has to offer.

“We’re doing this now to build the Bain and Grants Town our forefathers dreamt about – a thriving, unified community where hope is given to every man, woman, boy and girl, a BGT where dreams are deferred no more. We’re doing this now because history demands it.”

Saturday’s launch was held at Bimini Avenue, off Market Street.

This is so brave and this is a step into the future of creating a better Bahamas and taking back what belongs to us, high respect to this young gentleman. All we need now is for many many more youth who has a vision to do the same, rid the Bahamas of a government party and have a house of assembly of independent candidates. We need more brave patriotic, loyal and determine Bahamains to take this stand and take back what every government has taken away from us the people.

Where can one donate to this young mans campaign? This is exactly what our country needs, dedicated, driven, young persons taking a leadership roll. Watch out for the demons who will try and corrupt you, they have no want for change but this country MUST change or self destruct.

Self-empowerment describes this young man. Do not sit around and wait for someone to do it for you. He has chosen to be a leader and not a follower. Commendable, simply commendable. May God give you the Wisdom, finances and physical fortitude to capture this seat in the next general election. God bless you Travis Robinson

Good to see this. The second independent to declare. And there will be more. He is running against two compromised people- BJ 'Needed to retire yesterday' Nottage and the Leonard "the contractor that can't finished anyone's job" Sands. He is guaranteed to get the fed up vote for sure.

Youth Parliament is for entertainment ........ grown up Parliament is for mature national leaders .............. sad thing is that most of our present Parliamentarians are childish cry-babies and wussies
