Teachers return to classes at CW Sawyer Primary School, await mould report

BAHAMAS Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson yesterday said teachers of CW Sawyer Primary School have returned to the classrooms but are still waiting for the assessment of the mould testing report and the full report on the structural condition of the school.

Mrs Wilson told The Tribune that her members are still concerned about their health, safety and well-being.

She said: "The structural soundness of the school has been conducted by independent engineers and The Bahamas Union of Teachers will continue to monitor the situation."

Last week Tuesday outside of Cabinet, Education Minister Jeff Lloyd addressed the structural issues at the school.

“As you know Sybil Strachan, with regard to the scabies, that has been addressed and rectified and I believe that students and teachers are back, as well as CW Sawyer,” he told reporters.

“We are looking at the structural circumstance of the entire school system, including CW Sawyer. Our teams, along with the Ministry of Works’ teams, have been working to assess exactly what the state of the physical structure is as an update to the assessment that was done last year and during the summertime.

“So there is a constant revision of that update. But we have just done so in the last week and a half. And the idea is to see where there might be issues that will arise from a critical standpoint that need to be immediately addressed.

“We have been mandated by the Ministry of Finance to provide a report on the costing of what may be required between now and the end of the fiscal year and that is in process at this time and we should have a response in terms of any leads determined by the end of...this Tuesday.”

This pink lipped clown heard about mould somewhere and now that's the catch word for all the stupid shit this clown is using to cover up her intentions to make our kids as dumb as conchs ! Mould grows in damp dark places just where she needs to go and reside and leave teaching to people who know how it's done ! I don't see how educated people listen to and follow the feces that spews from that anal cavity in her face !!!

The comments here are sickening and highlight a great ill within this country. I implore you to tour some of the classroom facilities, especially in the Family Islands. Broken furniture, deplorable restrooms, as well as mold. The teachers and the BUT are fighting for better conditions for educators as well as students. Please keep your hateful rhetoric in your minds, and don't spew it for the world to see. Heaven forbid that teachers allow themselves and students to become sick in the classroom. Then everyone would be screaming as to why the teachers did not speak up. Please visit the public schools around the country. It is hard to even get some parents out to PTA meetings, so imagine parents wanting to view the place, where there children spend so much of their waking moments. Feel free to respond with your vile and malicious answers. Government build schools but rarely maintain them. I pray many of you on this forum actually go into the schools and volunteer to read a book or find out if there is anything you can help with. It is so easy to be mean when you are anonymously sitting behind an electronic device.

In addition to hot lips, you are no doubt also very supportive of Lloyd and Minnis and what they are (not) doing to address the serious problems in our now virtually non-existent public education system. If you want real change for the poor students you speak of, then at least think about supporting those who might have a genuine interest in and stand a chance of making the sorely needed changes. Hot lips is much too interested in union politicking for the uneducated and/or unqualified teachers she represents.

I really wonder if we live in The Bahamas .......... almost 90% of the Education budget goes to pay admin, teachers, clerks and janitresses ........ Little is left to buy books, desks, paint, bleach and mops ............ This is the reality that exists ......... Now Lloyd wants tablets and laptops.
