UPDATED: Family say body of missing fisherman found

FAMILY of fisherman Harold Fritzgerald have reported that his body has been found.

A source close to the family said that the 49-year-old’s remains were found Thursday evening. They added that the family is doing okay, but it was “a big loss for everyone”.

Royal Bahamas Police Force Superintendent Shanta Knowles reported that on Friday police on Andros found a body of an adult male and a 19ft Mako boat, about 18-20 miles off Morgan's Bluff, Andros.

Superintendent Knowles stated in a press release that police will await an autopsy report to confirm the identity and exact cause of death.

Authorities reported that on Wednesday, December 25, Mr. Fritzgerald and Ryan Russell from Lowe Sound, Andros left on a fishing trip.

Mr. Fritzgerald’s stepson, Kortney Cartwright, told The Tribune last week the men were last seen leaving for the Northwest Channel Light on a 25ft white open hull Mako, single engine 200 HP. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force was assisting in the search.

The two were expected to return by 6pm on the holiday. Investigations are continuing.

So he left on a 25ft boat and was found on a 19ft boat with no sign of the other man- Russell?

According to this Reporting, 25’ Mako (Manufacturer) Boat leaves Lowe Sound on 25th December (Christmas Day) with two men on board for Northwest Channel Light (35 miles away) intent on fishing. On 3rd January (10 days later) one of the two men is found dead on a 19’ Mako (same Brand of Boat) 18/20 miles off Morgan’s Bluff (presumably in the Tongue of the Ocean). Where did this second smaller Boat originate from and who is the Registered Owner?

The report has mistakes as it relates to the boat. He was found under the same boat they left in (25ft Mako), the body was submerged in water and Russell is still missing.

Based on last comment that there is only one Mako Boat involved and the body of one of the missing was found “under” the Boat “submerged in water”, one is led to now presume the Boat turned over and the other missing person became separated from the Boat. Nonetheless, this is merely further speculation and one can only hope that whoever is responsible for reporting this Story can provide a more accurate account of what information is known.
