Doctors Hospital
DOCTORS Hospital is appealing to the public to make blood donations. The hospital is in urgent need of all blood types, but particularly those that are (B-) and (O-).
The Blood Bank is headquartered on the second floor of Doctors Hospital. Donations can be made between 8:30am and 8pm weekdays and from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Persons can contact the blood bank at 302-4750.

Is there much of a difference between the cost of a pint of blood to a patient of PMH over a private Hospital?

A HUGE difference - Doctor's hospital for a child I paid $300 per unit while at PMH units and units are received at no charge. Not sure of charges to adults at PMH.

I know any business must charge for services provided but to charge so much for something that is donated that could assist life from death is not right.

Yes, but don't forget it costs to screen that blood for communicative diseases. It also costs to pay the folks that do the testing. Also there are facets to blood transfusion many don't know. There are various ways of stripping the blood to receive only certain parts of it for various needs. Once again it all costs money. They don't discriminate when they give it. Saving a life is first and foremost. But if I'm receiving that blood for whatever reason I want to be able to trust the blood I got, not be unsure because someone did not do some test to save a few pennies.

Most US Private Hospitals are known for approaching their paying patients to donate replacement blood, and then charging the blood recipients all over again.
