Bahamas trip for senate hopeful

A NEWSPAPER is reporting that Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel travelled to a Bahamas resort for a speech and fundraiser in his quest to win a seat in the US Senate. The Plain Dealer of Cleveland reports Mandel made the trip to Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island last Friday. A spokesman told the paper Mandel didn't spend the night and paid his travel expenses with campaign funds. Travis Considine said Mandel spoke to representatives of the payday lending industry and held a Senate fundraiser while there. The 34-year-old Mandel easily won the Republican nomination for Senate on March 6. He faces incumbent Democratic Sen Sherrod Brown in November. The newspaper reported Mandel took a combined $9,500 from payday lending companies during his 2010 campaign for treasurer.
