Details emerge about Prince's Jubilee visit to the Bahamas

By CELESTE NIXON Tribune Staff Reporter cnixon@tribunemedia.net PRINCE Harry will visit the Bahamas for the first time next month, as part of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee. As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which honour 60 years of the Queen's reign, members of the Royal Family will travel overseas to visit every British Realm as well as commonwealth countries, crown dependencies and British overseas territories. At a press conference held at the Colonial Hilton yesterday, it was announced that Prince Harry will be making a three-day visit to the Bahamas, scheduled March 3 to 5. Giving an overview of the activities planned, cabinet secretary Anita Bernard said "we are looking forward to a great time with the Prince". Events include courtesy calls to the Governor General Sir Arther Foulkes, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, Leader of the Opposition Perry Christie along with various other members of the government, a church service at Christ Church Cathedral on March 4, with the opening of the Queen's Jubilee Exhibition in Rawson and Parliament Squares later that evening. Some 5,500 students from across the nation are expected to attend a youth rally and cultural show that will take place at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium March 5. Later that day, Prince Harry is scheduled to visit the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Base in Coral Harbour. During his stay in the Bahamas Prince Harry will be traveling to Staniel Cay Exuma, briefly touring the Exuma Land and Sea Park, followed by a visit to Windermere Island where his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, vacationed during their honeymoon. Prince Harry will also be visiting Jamaica and Belize during the celebrations. The actual Diamond Jubilee will take place in June.
