Julien releases new single "The Tribune"

By LESH Would you broadcast your love on the front page of the Tribune? Bahamian singer Julien Thompson said he surely would. And he did. In a new single named after the Bahamas' leading daily newspaper, Julien proves that he is prepared to go to any lengths to broadcast his love. Featuring international recording artist Shontelle, "The Tribune" explores the idea of love on the down-low. "What's the use of being in love if you have to hide and seek love?" said Julien, sharing the question he often asks women. "Lately I have been seeing so many women settle, especially when it comes to relationships. I look at so many women and ask, why you just letting him treat you like that? You don't really understand it until someone you're close to is experiencing relationship problems, domestic abuse or drama," said the young singer. The Tribune is an anthem for women to know their worth. It was inspired by a close friend, who was in a relationship playing second fiddle, said Julien. He wanted his friend to know her worth, so he told her personally that he would promote the relationship every and anywhere possible, taking it as far as the newspaper, if he got the chance. "If I was with her she would be number one in my life and I would not be ashamed of her. I would even put it on the 7 o'clock news," said Julien. In a serendipitous stroke of fate, Julien said his mother placed a Tribune newspaper in his room the same day of the conversation. He looked on the front page and envisioned the pair on it. This was the inspiration for the name. "I also wanted to do something indigenous to the Bahamas. Something I knew we would get right away," said Julien. He is expecting "The Tribune" to be as big as his previous hit single and fan favorite "Believe". When "Believe" came out, due to the state of the country at the time, he said the song brought hope to the masses. It presently stands at number two on the Tempo countdown. "It's hard to compare success but I know its going to do great things," he said. This year the artist plans to release a new single every three months. He is currently working on shooting a music video for The Tribune. When Julien approached his friend, recording artist Shontelle, for her opinion on the song, he said the collaborative effort was born. "From the break she loved the song and appreciated the message in it so when I approached her she was like Julien what if I just sung on it and represent us women. I was like you would do that for me, she was like anything for you," said Julien.
