Miami fashion week welcomes new Bahamian designer

STEP aside Versace, Bahamian fashion designer Latoya Hanna-Moxey is making her way down the catwalk, with a debut line called Minka swimwear, this week at Miami Fashion Week. The Miami Beach International Fashion Week is said to be the fifth largest event on the fashion calendar. The Caribbean is expected to be represented in a major way during the four day event on March 21 to 24. Hanna-Moxey has been invited to showcase a minimum of 20 pieces in her collection. It is one more notch on a long list of accomplishments for this corporate mother and chandler, turned fashion designer, who recently launched her swimwear collection Minka. Hanna-Moxey's new line is known for its range of designs that fit "every woman, with chic, timeless, playful and practical styles that capture the essence of different personalities". Soft highlights and bold colors make up the designs. Hanna-Moxey says you can call her a maven of all trades, entering into the world of entrepreneurship with Maven Candles, her line of handmade soy based candles launched in 2009. This week, she will share a runway with scores of designers from more than 32 countries, where superstar Dionne Warwick is expected to share her own expertise as a celebrity and trendsetter.
