Police: no leads in murder

POLICE have no suspects in custody and only insubstantial leads in the murder of Noel "Noey" Roker. The country's 30th murder victim was shot several times outside a relative's home on Dorsett Alley off West Street around 6pm on Monday. He died at the scene. The area is colloquially known as "Babylon" and has been the scene of three or four murders in recent years, community activists say. Central Detective Unit head Supt Paul Rolle said detectives are still investigating the incident. "We don't have anybody in custody for the murder last night, as yet," he said, yesterday. "We have very little leads as to who's responsible for that. I have the detectives out in the field, right now." Roker, of Rupert Dean Lane, who be believed to be in his mid 20s, was known to Babylon residents who remembered him as "shy". One woman who was among the crowd at scene of his death said: "I've known him since he was a little boy. He was quiet, shy, never had much to say for himself." Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information regarding the shooting to contact them by dialing 919, 322-3333, 502-9991, or Crime Stoppers on 328-TIPS.
