Rudisha will make first competition appearance in the US

NEW YORK (AP) -- Reigning world champion and 800-meter record holder David Rudisha will compete in the US for the first time at the Adidas Grand Prix meet on June 9. These days, the 23-year-old Kenyan is the undisputed king of the 800 and a heavy favourite heading into the London Olympics. He was the IAAF male athlete of the year in 2010 and 2011. The Adidas meet is held on New York's Randall's Island and is shaping up to be a star-packed event. Reigning Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and world champion Carmelita Jeter will square off in the 100, possibly providing a glimpse of what's in store in the London Olympics. World champion Yohan Blake of Jamaica will compete in the men's 100, while Jeremy Wariner tries to defend his 400 title.
